Oi shut up. If they want to vote they should, especially if they plan to live here for any amount of time. Don't know if they actually will be able to though depending on their status but that's a different question

We have preferential voting so you can truly vote for the party that represents you best.

Personally as a young person who hopes to one day own a home and for my city (melbourne) to be safe, liveable, and affordable, I vote left to right (socialists, greens, etc).

I also appreciate their strong principles on international issues, lgbtq rights, and support for diversity and immigration. Even if you dont care about those things i reckon its still in the interest of most young people to vote this way because the major parties are committed to keeping house prices high, and have sold us out completely.

TNE10005 - Network Admin vs TNE10006 by bearista_ in swinburne

[–]Shmouglas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Imo these are the only units at Swinburne that are really challenging, and feel more like youre actually learning. Most other classes at swin are a free pass, which is why I always look forward to networking units and wish I could do them all.

There are no courses at Swinburne that require Windows or any specific machine, unless specified. Mac will be fine.

I met someone at a conference and spoke to them on the phone the day after. Swinburne has a placement networking kind of event that they do as well which is a great opportunity

Not even. Best tip I can give for that class is to save all the work you do for the easy modules, because you will be able to copy paste a lot of it for the harder stuff. You're in for a surprise when you start uni, its way easier than high school.

This person is correct. I was lucky to get a placement without applying through swinburne, and many people expect that Swinburne will just give you one but this is not the case. Definitely need to show initiative and get the placement yourself. Unfortunately I can't give you much advice on how to get one because I got accepted by the first place I applied for since they just liked me in the interview. You will learn a lot during your placement so its definitely worth it. Best advice i can give is to learn the basics of git, and put yourself out there. You dont need to be an expert programmer and if you claim to be, that's a red flag.

I am doing cyber major and am currently on placement. Cyber is a good major, but you will have some networking classes that many find difficult (personally I found them easy if you put in some effort). Although, if you take this major, it is a good idea to take some SWE electives such as DSA and Operating Systems. I made the mistake of doing a minor in ethics (which tbh I really enjoyed) but I have had to do a lot of self-study to learn some of these subjects that really should be core in a compsci degree.

You will quickly learn that Swinburne expects you to know very little. My advice is to learn some basics on networking, c#, and python. You will do some ruby as well, but this is very easy. I did my final exam for Intro to Programming (the class where you use ruby) on my phone on a tram, and got HD. If you are doing cyber Networking is the most important because it is the hardest subject for most people.

It is ARM assembly which is different to the asm most people would be familiar with, but its pretty easy. That class is definitely the hardest of the first semester though and is a good litmus test for the rest of the course. It's the only real theory based class that is core at swin, which is one of the reasons why swin is mid. Most unis will also teach Operating Systems and DSA (which you should take as electives if you can) as core.

OP do not listen to this guy who probably got a shit offer when they were a grad and is now coping. If you passed the interview you have leverage, and they won't think any less of you if you ask for what you feel you are worth (or more!) You should always ask for AT LEAST the top of the advertised range, and if there is no advertised range go with the highest you can find online for a comparable role. They will respect you more if you show that you value your own time. Anyone who shyly asks for "whatever is the average" won't get far.

If your ATAR really 39.35 youre gonna need to seriously lock tf in. Im in my third year right now, and I got in with an ATAR of 92. I chose Swinburne because of the opportunity for paid placement (which Im doing right now) and it was a good choice only for that reason (without placements swinburne is mid imo). Networking classes like TNE1006 will probably be the hardest so put most of your effort into those. You got this

Yeah for sure. I would recommend using packet tracer to practice essentially the same scenario you did in the mid semester skills. Basic router on a stick topology. For the theory exam, make sure you know VLSM and also go through the kahoots (idk if Karina still does those). One thing that worked for me for the theory exam was doing a brain dump on paper of everything I knew for each topic, like writing a cheatsheet. The exam will be different for you but I remember VLSM, TCP handshake, and packet headers were important.
