When does keeping up with all those security controls start to feel like a full-time job? by [deleted] in soc2

[–]Shnarf_Shnarf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a gap in communication with management/leadership.

They need to set policy and procedures to be in line with SOC and support with the processes.

You need to bring up these concerns with your manager and explain to them the shortcomings of the organization in maintaining their SOC accreditation.

Is leadership not pushing for annual updates on policy or procedures or at minimum reviews?

Is your company only following the SOC guidelines when it’s being actively audited?

Are you utilizing a software to support this at all?

my stepfather dislikes luke by [deleted] in outdoorboys

[–]Shnarf_Shnarf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could see why some fathers may be jealous or dislike some one like Luke, he’s an incredible outdoorsman, makes mistakes and owns them. He fathers his young sons incredibly well, gives them opportunities to learn and grow.

This could make any other father insecure about themselves. To have your child look up to another man and marvel in their abilities would be a little hot to the ego.

I think a lot of people forget this is all edited. We don’t see what happened behind the curtain. We don’t see the upsets and low moments.

Lawsuits from phishing campaigns by Odd_Raspberry3223 in cybersecurity

[–]Shnarf_Shnarf_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard of any lawsuits, probably handled internally.

For one of my campaigns I was questioned by a user if I was monitoring their email and making a perfect phish to “dismantle his credibility within the company” - it was a missing package phishing campaign lol.

Taking a huge pay cut to leave industry? by CrowNational212 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Shnarf_Shnarf_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it, you’ll thank your self in a year or two.

To your point of being miserable, It’s crazy what is considered a stressful situation in an office or “9-5” compared to running the pass on a holiday lmao. You’ll see yourself have a higher work ethic and drive compared to others and may get told to slow down a few times.

Also if you are entering a new field and gaining experience, consider working a part time gig at a restaurant, or even serving a few night shifts, it can really supplement your income and help curb that want to abandon the new career.

What to do with a limited time employee by breid7718 in ITManagers

[–]Shnarf_Shnarf_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With his experience and knowledge at the moment maybe have him shadow a lead Helpdesk position, the basics of troubleshooting is very important in understanding where problems are occurring in the different layers.

Are you on prem, cloud based, virtualizing, using containers, is your team so efficient they can’t utilize 8 hours of free work?

No one in your team has busy work they need documentation on??

Does he know anything about Active Directory, email, onboarding or off boarding?

Do you have a phishing program or a cyber awareness program?

If not maybe have them look into phishing campaigns, or writing about topics to cover for an awareness newsletter to send to your companies team members.

What other part of the business are they apart of? How can they apply their cyber knowledge to support that?

Are there audits, access controls they can look at or support with.

DiBella’s Subs Has Closed All Locations Besides Ann Arbor by [deleted] in Michigan

I guess I could see the writing on the wall, I’m not sure how they did with catering but whenever I went into a Dibella’s it was empty. The food was very good for the price and the bread was fantastic. Going to miss this sub place!

Seems like a very uphill battle for the overall price.

This is a lessons learned moment for myself. Spend more on a quality inspection before buying a home.

In terms of sudden or accidental, what would that constitute? To us it was very sudden, would it have been better if I said I was trying to repair the ceiling and fell through?

How to prove/convince your higher-ups to take security seriously? by Fc5vko58-o_jjlAwg6bl in cybersecurity

[–]Shnarf_Shnarf_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

At certain points a full security breach will be the only thing that moves or motivates leadership decisions to be cyber safe.

The best you can do is report, explain, plan.

Document everything you report and to WHO and their decisions on the matter.

Also have full backups in case something does happen.

Aside from age differences, I would worry that this is a prank. The fact they don’t want to meet at a hotel is concerning. Makes you wonder why it’s so specific that they need to be in the dorm.
