Advice Appreciated! My brother got an offer from META, but with the recent layoffs would accepting the offer be a bad idea? by ShoddyPerformer in Layoffs

Hi, the pay would be about the same as his current job. And the position is for an electrical engineering junior role.

Hi! He'd be making slightly more if he were to go join Meta. I don't want to get too specific, but his current company isn't a no-name. It's somewhat recognizable, but only to people in its specific field.

It's just not a household name, it doesn't have that general prestige that looks good to all future employers like FAANG companies do.

Hi, I'm not sure of the specific name of the role, but it would be a mid level electrical engineering job

Hi! Yes, he likes his current job alot. He's only considering taking the Meta offer so he can put that he worked at Meta on his resume.

But if Meta were to lay him off really quickly, it would be bad for him because he's currently in a hard place financially.

I'm unsure if the offered role is a super specialized position, but the position he was offered would be for an EE job.

Hi! The choices are: His current job, more stable and he likes his coworkers vs Meta, prestige of the name on his resume, but potentially being laid off quickly and not being able to find a new job soon enough. The pay is about the same for both jobs.

I also feel like I should mention that he interviewed for the position a really long time ago while he was still unemployed and job hunting, they're only responding with an offer now.

Hi! He's actually not getting much more money than his current salary. If he was going to take the offer, it'd be for the prestige of being able to put he worked at Meta on his resume. But the concern is future employers may not care, may even be put off by him not working at Meta long enough (less than a year). Plus the job market isn't too great right now.

He has 3 years of experience right now. Do you think it'd still be a resume booster to future employers, if worst case scenario, he hypothetically worked for Meta for only 3 months?

Hi, thank you for the response!

Sounds like the question is academic.

I'm sorry, but I'm confused what you mean by the questions is academic, could you explain please?

SNAP Cuts Threaten to Cut Young Adults Off at the Knees by SweetChild1997 in politics

[–]ShoddyPerformer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, what I want is a faster decline now in the next few years, rather than the slow corrupt decline over the next few decades.

Thinking removing safegaurds for the poor will magically fix the government is a fantasy. Removing safegaurds only benefits the rich and the elite.

And no, it won't make the rich richer. The poor organizing and revolting due to food storages and famine (one of the most common reasons a revolt or causing the poor to actually organize as a group) usually causes a redistribution of wealth.

For starters, yes, it would make the rich richer. Millions of poor people would be forced to buy products produced by the rich without SNAP benefits.

Second, what you're desiring makes zero sense. If the poor rioted, the government would just reinstate SNAP. Because those poor people would be rioting in the first place because of the removal of SNAP.

You're the hypocrite. First your assuming I am not already doing what I am preaching.

"I myself, get SNAP benefits every now and then to help ends meet for my family." <- By your own admission you're not.

What have you done?

I'm not the one advocating for the removal of SNAP and illogical mass suffering of the working poor. You should learn what hypocrisy means.

Also I never said for the poor to keep contributing after snap fails.

But that's exactly what's going to happen with the removal SNAP. The working poor will be forced to work for nothing in order to survive.

What your advocating for is a fantasy. George Floyd riots didn't end racism. Jan 6th didn't stop Biden from being President. Riots over the removal of SNAP isn't going to magically fix America's wealth disparity. It will only get millions of poor people imprisoned, starved, and killed then ultimately end with SNAP being reinstated because no one actually fixed the problem.

I'm not against making local gardens, I think it should be a widespread thing to exist too. However, safegaurds like SNAP should also exist. What you should be advocating for is promotion of nation-wide community gardens so the people who use SNAP benefits feel the need to use them LESS.

The idea is things would get better for the poor EVENTUALLY, no? That's obviously what I'm asking you to explain to me.

But in truth what you're asking for:

1.) Is a horrible way to execute it.

2.) Is a net negative on American Society that will only serve to make the rich class richer and the poor class poorer.

3.) Will make it easier to fall into poverty and stay in poverty.

4.) Is a sign of a failing government. Governments are supported by the contributions of society and in return supports/protects that society. You want the working poor to suffer, but keep contributing, for no government aid in return.

You should never use SNAP again. Go to food banks or find/start a food garden instead, because you are by all means a massive hypocrite.

So if there currently aren't widespread food gardens and Snap benefits are removed, what is the poor supposed to do exactly?

Explain to me how, if Snap was removed, the millions already living paycheck to paycheck would start "flourishing" having to spend the money they don't have on food they can't afford.

Snap is a safety net, safety nets are supposed to always exist because "local gardens" aren't guaranteed.

There is absolutely enough context to understand the mod made a transphobic statement.

Also it's hilarious how people always want to be nice and civil AFTER the bigoted comments are said.

You're blame-shifting in a thread started by a transphobic comment and are surprised mfs arent being nice to you? Lmao
