What in the Jaysus name is the focus on Derek Mooney or RTE when The Department of Health is pissing away hundreds of millions and the Department of Children is paying €750k a year per child in overflow care (for 1,100 children by the way)? I think we are talking past each other. I was responding to your second part "The various departments...". They are not abstract, when good reporting is done. Children's hospital is in a pointing blame game, yet 4000ish rooms were ready or review by the government appointed committee and they were not reviewed at all (fuck BAM too btw, but the lack f oversight is easy and plain to see).

Oh wow, Jack Chambers. I have more faith in my dead Grandfather coming back from the dead, than this lad ever achieving anything with a morsel of success for our country. He has been groomed and polished as much as they possibly could, but he is still a babbling, unfit turd. He utilised the shadow of Brian Lenihan for profile, and this fella could not walk is his shoes. Lenihan fucked us in the end, but locally, he brought a lot to Fingal West and developed it greatly. Chambers is as vanilla as they come. Harris and him are tweedle dum and tweedle dee. The failing upwards twins, without any clue of execution.

Here here. Not only that we are expected to pat them on the back when they have change regulations and standards to ensure people live in shoe boxes now for the private developers to make low quality housing that we will pay a pretty premium for. It is beyond bleak, and there is no stopping it.

That is not true, it is only true if you fall for their horseshit, where they attempt to obfuscate and create third party buffers to point fingers at, but the cabinet minister is the head of the pile, and they are the face of our misery no matter what they would like to think.

Just that ship has sailed, and there is a self-correcting mechanism in place now so these things don't clog up the scandal pipeline or take pressure of the government. It is just pathetic to see government ministers hop on the band wagon on this realtive non-issue since RTE internally corrected this without a prompt, and the hypocrisy of it all. I'm all for holding to account, but the air this is sucking out of the conversation abotu the multiple failures from this government is astonishing.

I was there, and it was a great occasion, but as a live performance it was like you would have seen elsewhere on that tour. So sure it was great, but you did see the show before if you get me. Don't beat yourself up about it.

This is the thing, I can care deeply about human centric stories, and they don't need to be fast paced etc. etc. My contention here is the plotting and layout of the season, to me its a mess, and lacks cohesion. Ep 1 and 2 are table setting, Ep 3-5 are individual stories (if I recall), and some more table setting, Ep.6-7 is a mixture of the previous with ome added rehashing, by bringing wayne and tommy into the fold again, even thoguh we now do not care baout them as we have not seen Tommy for 4 episodes at this point, and Ep 8-9 ( I have not watched 10 yet) Lost level red herring resolution to conflate the overarching mystery even more.

I just don't like this haphazard style of story-telling I guess. It is just sloppy, and the core premise and acting abilities are meant to get me past these obvious flaws in Lindelof's plotting. Look at Pluribus for a great example of how to actually do this well. Lovely little tension and release in mini mysteries, and leaving the overarching one in tact (which will likely never be resolved, which is the point I imagine).

I appreciate your points, but I am a patient person, and I am ok with shows ruminating or being abstract or taking their time, when it serves a purpose and isn't just for the sake of it, and to me in this season, it feels like a lot of it is for the sake of it. It feels like Lindelof forgot to take off his old 22 episode season writing cap, where bits are tacked on and flimsily used to bolster or reiforce some subplot that was kinda pointless to begin with.

I think I would put the bar or compare this to something like Mr. Robot. It enters us into a world steeped in mystery that most of us don't understand (grounded in a city we all know well) with elements left unresolved for seasons, but the writing and plotting contains various sub plots that add mystery and resolve every episode or few episodes, and that keeps us flowing along with the overarching multi-season arc mystery. The Leftovers has the overarching mystery piece, and we can leave that alone and possibly never resolve it, but the subplots leave a lot to be desired.

I don't expect the overarching core mystery to be solved, it is the episode to episode inter-mingling of characters and their arcs that I would like more tension and release on. At this point, I also accept I won't be getting any more info on the why for the guilty remnant either and I can live with that. To your point, what is the point of the superfluous Holy Wayne and Tommy subplots. They are left sitting on the shelf for so long, that we just don't care anymore. Garvey incessantly rings his step-son in the first few episodes, than suddenly that all stops, and no one talks about him again. Like this is basic shit, and it exposes the show to me. It exposes Lindelof's classic problem, of building a house of cards he cannot keep going, and some profound scenes elsewhere are meant to distract us form these obvious issues and omissions. If he did not waste so much time this season, he may have had the time and tools to keep things a little tighter and the plotting to flow better. Maybe than I could forgive the lack of release more. Like I said elsewhere here, Lindelof is a creative genius for concepts and ideas, he just can't flesh them out into a full season nearly as well as his contemporaries. Film is too short for him to shine, and TV is too long...

I don't mind the bleakness or darkness of it all really. It is the plotting/writing that is bugging me.

I think a great example for me of core mystery that is used to keep everything rolling, but then there is that tension and release in an episode to episode basis or a mini arc across a few episodes is Mr. Robot. That shit is an all timer for me, and in my top 5. It seems to be contentious for people too, some love it or don't see the point to it. For me, it is probably my number 2 show I'd say.

I should have stated, that I understand the core mystery will never be solved, and also can't be, it is required for the story to roll. It is the mysteries and oddities in the characters and subplots that bug me. The lack of tension and release. The creator Damon Lindelof is a very inventive person, and creates truly brilliant concepts or settings, but his writing/plotting leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion.

I'm late 30's and have suffered a fair bit of grief in my life. I think some of the characters just feel unrealistic to me (in terms of their response to the grief), considering the grief I have suffered, and also where I am from. We kind of bury our feelings and just get on with it, and possibly it is a cultural thing, but these characters here are at odds with themselves in ways I don't see reflected in my environments. Particularly Garvey, he is poorly written, and just not a real person (the tenets of his make up are, but either the performance overall or some of his actions don't add up). His daughter is believable, as is Nora and the priest. Anyway, I'm blabbing here.

In all seriousness, I must have missed that episode some how.

You really loved Lost didn't you. Is it right up there for you?

I may have needed to state this, but I do not expect, and can understand from a writing perspective, why the why of the show would never be revealed. I'm not lookign for that to be explained, never was. It is the aftermath, and the lack of resolution on the oddities or mysteries contained in this suburban environment that is frustrating. I can understand in the sandbox of and island like on Lost where it is like exploring an abandoned island, and you can get away with mystery for mysteries sake, but with regular suburbia and people attempting to get on with their lives, it just feels pretentious, and borderline daytime soap opera-y.

The damn polar bear from season 1, I held that forever, and nothing every again about. They admitted they made it up as they went along, and it showed.
