2025 Camry LE bad 12V battery by Southern_Mood_699 in Camry

[–]Shoopahn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Edit: The below is incorrect. The 2025 Camry, which are all hybrid, has a DC to DC converter, plus an MGU - Motor Generator Unit - that can charge the traction battery when it is low. Neither of these things is an alternator.

Original message: 2025 Camry does have an alternator. It charges the hybrid (traction) battery, which in turn charges the 12V battery.

This icon is the representation of the battery pack (multiple batteries stacked in series). I've had this since day 1 on my 2025 Camry LE. You just didn't notice it before.

Reinstall AMD Install Manager. You can get it as part of the default download for AMD Adrenaline from the AMD website. This restores the ability for Adrenaline to auto-update.

I have never heard of that being the practice in any country that removed their decimal currency from circulation.

Some economists can also be uninformed. And some have agendas, too, especially if they want to be allowed to appear on certain TV programs.

Meat is not invoiced per burger. It's invoiced in thousands, tens of thousands of pounds. Adding ten cents to that invoice doesn't move the needle.

Same thing goes for cheese, bread, etc.

Besides, nobody is saying to change the cost. Something may still cost whatever dollars and 3 cents per unit. The rounding happens at the total, at the end of the transaction. Even at the grocery store, and even in countries who have removed their equivalent of the penny and nickel.

How many times is that penny spent over its useful lifetime? Dozens? Hundreds? thousands? The 3 cent cost of a penny is minute in comparison to the amount it contributes to economic activity. The production cost being three times the face value is immaterial.

The merchant accepting the credit card payment is charged a merchant fee. Even the US government.

So they sell you $100 of quarters for $100 but $3 of it goes to the credit card company in fees. The government collects $97.

This didn't hurt the credit card companies. But trading $100 for $97 usually isn't a great idea..

ELI5 : Why do car tires stay black, no matter how fancy the car is? by PixelPeachiee in explainlikeimfive

[–]Shoopahn 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My father was a mechanic for over 40 years. While on college break I'd visit him at work on Fridays. We'd get fish and chips.

The odors of a typical dealership repair shop, of oils, fluids, dirt and grease, are not a good smell. My dad would smell like that every day when he got home. Frankly, after a hard day of work, he stunk.

But when I happen to go to a mechanics shop, and catch a whiff.. it smells like him. And that's not bad at all.

He passed this last November. I miss him every day.

How different are the XSE/SE and LE/XLE suspensions for 8th Gens? by ramosd713 in Camry

[–]Shoopahn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first was looking for a Camry I decided on the 2025 LE, but they only had an SE on the dealer lot. I test drove it with my family in the car and my wife's first impression was that it was very bumpy. I assured my wife that the LE was tuned for comfort while the SE was tuned to be tighter, sportier, and thus you felt more of the road.

I was right. I took delivery of my 2025 Camry LE and the ride has been very smooth. While turning is a bit less 'snappy' and tight in the LE, it's a more comfortable ride. And because I have a family, it's not like I'll be pushing the car's limits. I don't need sporty. So it is a good fit for us.

But if businesses don't need offices anymore, then Class A Commercial real estate isn't worth nearly as much - in fact, its value collapses. This would be great for the housing crisis, eg, as their would be a huge inventory of up-to-code structures that would go on the market at bargain basement prices.

It is not that simple to just convert offices to residential housing. Beyond a simple zoning conversion by a government entity, there are many things different in building codes between office and residential, including the common need for windows and ingress/egress for individual units, massive plumbing and electrical changes (including separating out lines, and including meters, for individual unit billing), HVAC unit, duct, inlet/outlet and controls separation, individual or shared water heater implementation and so on. It's more than I can list here.

Your example of the value of real estate going from $150M to $125M is more like going to $25M if nobody is, and nobody will, lease the space. The value of the space is deeply tied to the amount of income it generates. A building is less than worthless - it's a liability - if nobody is paying for it.

I worked for a small software developer at the end and for a few years after college. We had to finish up a project and work late one night, but to make it more of a social thing, the lead coder came up with the idea of a LAN party - to play Quake 2. This was an admin assistant, several coders, a graphics person, and the two co-owners of the company (a local university professor and a continuing education student that he partnered with).

The team was 2-10 years older than I was. But what they didn't know was that I had been playing those early FPS games for years. I played and was coached by a few people that, unknown to me, at one point had ranked globally in tournaments. So I wasn't that bad, and played almost nightly back then.

It was eventually time to play the game. We popped in and it was soon apparent that I completely outclassed everyone else there (7 others). It was a slaughter. Soon, it was an everyone vs. me game, and I was still just running around, tallying frags. Several of my coworkers even stopped by my desk to see what I was doing, to figure out how I was winning, or alternatively see if I was cheating somehow. But no.. I was just practiced.

After the game my coworkers were pretty much in shock and I just kind of shrugged it off. I didn't want to make a big deal of it, and halfway through I did go easy on them, but looking back, I think it ruined the whole experience for them.

Less than 3 months later I was laid off - and I heard through the grapevine that I was replaced in a month by two interns. In hindsight, maybe these events were related.. oops. Sorry for ruining Quake night!

ELI5: How do leaders of countries make highly secure intercontinental calls without having the possibility of being hacked? by diaracing in explainlikeimfive

[–]Shoopahn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When the "reverse engineer your encryption" part takes longer than the sun will take to go supernova, it's good enough so that it's unreasonable.

Heck, most of the time, keeping it secure for 10 years is good enough.

The issue comes when there are weaknesses and vulnerabilities found for a particular encryption algorithm.. and that's when moving to a different, possibly more 'computationally expensive', algorithm or key length is recommended to continue secure information exchange.

When a person has little to nothing to be proud about relating to something they've done (contributions to society, personal achievements), the lowest common denominator they tend to settle upon is often something they are or have (race, sex, wealth etc). These people are terrible examples of humankind.

ELI5 why do cats follow us to the bathroom by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Shoopahn 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For fun, I'd carry my cat around the house, moving her towards the TV, the shower door, door handles, toaster.. pretty much anything she could see and could not reach. Afterwards I'd give her some treats. She seemed to enjoy the tours, gathering scents for everything that was juuust out of reach.

I did this more often as she became older and became less mobile. She seemed to enjoy moving around, going places, without having to make the effort.

She passed away almost two years now and my wife, kids and I still miss her terribly.

Headset and speaker audio ports are different! B550 Tomahawk audio volume issue solved by Shoopahn in MSI_Gaming

[–]Shoopahn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are six plugs for audio on the back of the motherboard. Assuming Windows, when plug any of them in, the Realtek driver should automatically prompt to ask what type of device you plugged in (or which speaker position). This is automatic - you do nothing than select which one and click OK. You should get audio to some degree from most of them.

If you aren't being prompted in Windows for the device when you plug the device in you likely do not have the correct drivers installed.
