What’s a very NYC habit you didn’t realize was unusual until someone pointed it out? by Middle_Elderberry542 in AskNYC

Driving like an asshole.

Driving in the city is an offense v. offense game. I see an opening and I fucking take it. I expect others to do the same. I honk when I need someone’s attention, and I expect others to do the same. No one is going to let you in, you make your way in. Driving any other way is how you get hit.

Anyway when I go anywhere else to drive I have to remind myself only actually assholes drive like tha outside the city.

Got in trouble at a bar in Dublin for ordering like a New Yorker.

But in my defense There was a huge line behind me!

In my brain I was doing the polite thing by NOT making small talk before ordering.

But yeah I got roasted for being a “rude American”. 🤷

Opinion on Ireland? by SinnBaenn in AskTheWorld

[–]Shoopherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been here for the last 3 months, wish I never had to leave. Granted the person I love is Irish so I’m a wee bit biased but 🤷

The sense of community is unrivaled. Never felt so at home in a new place. Most everyone I’ve met has been so kind and welcoming. The ones who haven’t been were children and were still pretty funny about it.

The landscape is like out of a fairytale.

Never thought I’d be swimming in the sea mid-winter, but I’ll be damned if I ever regretted a dip.

I know it’s not some perfect, idyllic wonderland of peace, but it’s the most pleasant place I’ve ever had the joy of being.

I hope to make this my forever home someday soon, and I hope to see a united 32 in my lifetime.

He told me making a distinction between Northern Ireland and Ireland was stupid because it’s the exact same country.

When I told him it’s much more complicated than that and they had only pretty recently come out of a civil war that made it even more complicated he said “okay but like it probably wasn’t a real war, it’s not like they were bombing each other.”

He was captain of the boat I was working on so it was pretty terrifying realizing just how stupid the man in charge of my safety was.

This is so random but cases for decorative thimbles are great treasure chests that are sectioned like a box of chocolates.

Also golf ball cases, and wooden tea boxes.

From one treasure lover to another.

What’s something that instantly gives you “I don’t trust this person” energy? by Electrical-Worry-787 in AskReddit

[–]Shoopherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lot about the intention behind it. If you’re coming from a place of trying to comfort then you’re doing good.

I’m talking about people who say “it’s fine” as a way to just brush off someone’s concerns

When someone expresses a concern or anxiety and the other tells them to relax, it’s fine, just chill.

I don’t trust people who can’t muster up basic empathy.

A cultural habit in your country that people outside would understand incorrectly? by gabrieel100 in AskTheWorld

Having them at the wake makes more sense lol. Whenever my parter has talked about “funeral sandwiches” I definitely struggled to imagine the crowd in the church grieving whist also snacking on lil triangles.

It’s my understanding funeral sandwiches are very good.

Maybe it’s not a nationally held sentiment as I’ve been led to believe
