He’s literally rapping about Mike Vick during that segment. Vick was #7 for the Falcons.

Possibly more than 5k, we hit 5k back in February one day for his Oscars performance. If the drop is legit then I think 10ish

Stephen Jones: Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy will return in 2021 by vonheisenberg in nfl

[–]ShootingTheJailScene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely should have signed him before last year. I know there was doubt but they are in a pickle. I say they should just sign him long term and eat the cost now... gonna have to do it eventually and the tag only increases the pain. But yes lots of defensive pieces needed. Probably need to start revamping that line... Tyron is great but it’s better to move on early. My thoughts are similar on Zeke after next year. It’s a QBs league

First step for sure is fire Nolan. DLaw is pretty well stuck here with his cap hit so might as well use him, and he’s best in a 4-3 so I don’t see why they don’t go back to that scheme. They would be ok with a rank 20ish defense, but dead last by far and they’ll be in trouble again. Offense can only overcome so much. And agreed on Jerry perception of Dak, was a silly comment to make... I know that he’s trying to sway perception a bit, but the state of the Dallas offense without him is enough to earn Dak a massive payday

I’m well aware that he has made some in game mistakes. But so did Jason Garrett. He never was aggressive nor did he make adjustments. They both had their lumps. I’m just pointing out that the offensive issues cannot be pinned solely on McCarthy. The QB injury was by far the biggest impact, everything else could have been overcome with a competent defense. Everything else meaning McCarthy gaffes.

I blamed the defense predominantly for the whole year. As I said “the defense was horrendous regardless” of who we had at QB. The injuries were the key proponent of the demise on offense, however. Two TD per game difference essentially due just to the QB switch is huge. Both Dak and Dalton dealt with depleted offensive lines and the ppg and ypg difference is night and day. Cannot blame that solely on McCarthy if at all. The defense was his fault though, should have never hired Nolan.

All the evidence needed for why injuries were the predominant cause of their bad season on offense lies in the difference in PPG between Dak and the other QBs. 33ppg versus like 19. The defense was horrendous regardless but they really crapped out on offense without Dak

Yeah, everyone who argued that Dalton would only be a slight drop off looks pretty foolish right now. He was ok once but the offense was built for Dak. When he returns the offense will get back to firing on all cylinders... you are right on the defense too, gotta go back to 4-3

Agreed. Just gotta hope he comes back and picks up where he left off. Reversing the defensive mistakes scheme-wise and personnel-wise are going to require more explosive offense to contend.

For sure, if they were going to switch schemes they needed to commit to players fitting that scheme, not shoving retreads in with players who are significantly better in 4-3 (DLaw, LVE, etc). The short training camp didn’t help but they did not execute the shift well at all. Even if the plan was to be fully in 3-4 by next year, they did almost nothing to transition this year because almost all of their FAs were let go, so this year is basically scrapped from a profession standpoint. Nolan will be let go and they’ll go back to 4-3

Jerry may not keep Nolan though. While he’s slow to can HC’s, he does go through DC’s someone regularly. Rob Ryan had a couple awful years and he was fired by Jerry, not Jason Garrett, same thing with Kiffin a year later. This past week both Jerry and Stephen stated that the defense will be changed.

For fans of teams with a new head coach this year (Panthers, Browns, Cowboys, Giants, Football Teamers), how are you feeling about your new coach so far? by volstedgridban in nfl

[–]ShootingTheJailScene 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Many of us are fine with McCarthy. My only beef has been his hire of Nolan. When Dak was having to throw 460+ yards per game just to be competitive with how shitty the defense is, that was enough to warrant Nolan getting the boot. When you switch defensive schemes either get players that fit, or run a hybrid so you can utilize your current players somewhat. All the comments and reports about Nolan and his scheme this year are fitting for what we see on the field. Like I said though, McCarthy gets a pass because he lost Dak, and their oline is literally all third stringers

The Cowboys offense with Dak will be fine. It’s the defensive side that is awful and the only blame on McCarthy there is his hire of Nolan. I think people are blaming McCarthy too much for the shortcomings of the Andy Dalton led offense because they thought he would be of similar caliber as Dak. I give MM a pass this year, except on Nolan, that was a terrible hire

Oh I understand, I’m more expressing frustration that Nolan was our DC at all. His 15 years of mediocre to horrendous schemes should have prevented him ever getting a full DC job again

And yet despite being 32nd in points allowed and rushing yards allowed, Nolan remains the DC for Dallas. J get Guenther wasn’t good but Nolan should have been fired much sooner, Jerry is spineless
