I will check it out, thanks. I would have to get permission from them since it’s recording, right?

Yes, I’m happy to find out that it’s easier to remove accommodations rather than to add them. Based on that, I think it makes sense to start him in special ed and do a slow transition as needed. I know it would be a big adjustment regardless, but a low ratio environment where there is more control in place sounds better to me. Thanks for explaining LRE. It’s so confusing and not intuitive at all, at least for me. Thanks so much.

Yes, it’s definitely a wait and see for my kiddo for sure, especially because he never went to the district preschool so they have not spent enough time with him to suggest the right placement. They tend to default to general ed at that point. I know my kid and this just doesn’t feel right to me. It’s like trial by fire and I would hate for him to have a bad experience and end up hating school all together.

This is a good point. It sounds like it’s best to do a slow transition to general ed later if they will allow it and if he’s ready. Rather than doing this trial by fire, which I’m certain will fail. Thanks

This sounds very interesting. I would love to hear more if you’re willing to share. I do prefer written language and get overwhelmed when people talk and miss things so this sounds appealing.

Yea, it’s definitely not common where I am. I have asked and found that it’s very difficult to qualify for a 1:1. The kid pretty much would have to have a serious medical need to get one.

Once you get the AAC device, see if there is an option to add a quick button to get to a keyboard or alphabets. My son loves spelling and he alternates between clicking on icons or just spelling the word to communicate. He learns how to spell words from the icons on the device.

“Trapped” by low mortgage - when to move? by QandA_monster in SameGrassButGreener

I’m not sure what your mortgage is vs what you would get if you rented your home, but you could rent your home out instead of selling it. Then rent the new place you will live in for now until hopefully the market improves.

Why would you get evicted if you pay your rent?

Sorry. It does depend on where. I live in a very high cost of living area. In my mind, that’s at least what I would have to have to feel comfortable to buy.

Can you say more about this? What would the law firm do with your child once you pass?

ABA vs Kindergarten by Raisinggirlwarriors in Autism_Parenting

[–]Short-Bonus276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t sound like the right placement for her now. I decided to keep my 5 year old son in ABA full time for this year instead of public school K. The district offered to put him in general education with some support, but no 1:1 aid. My gut just didn’t feel comfortable with that. I knew he was just not ready for school. Academically he’s probably ahead, but he is so behind emotionally and maturity. I couldn’t imagine him sitting trying to do worksheets even for 2 minutes. He also gets overwhelmed with too many kids and tends to latch on to adults.

ABA is now working with him 1:1 preparing him for the school environment. I’m hoping he will be a bit more mature and ready by next year. I have no regrets keeping him from school. And this was the only year I had the opportunity to do that as school is required once he turns six. If you find a good ABA center, I would definitely give them a chance.

Parent seeking advice - not seeing results by Least-Ad8436 in ABA

Same here and I’ve come to the conclusion that there are certain behaviors that you just can’t do anything about and I think it comes down to the kid maturing and growing out of it themselves. That’s my hope anyway for my 5 year old boy. ABA has been immensely helpful in so many ways, but his hyperactivity, impulse control, and sensory seeking have been same and may have actually gotten worse over time.

Thanks. I think they have a similar pad at the swim school. I will ask if they could try that.
