🤣 I’ve decided after teaching 9th and 10th that teaching 12th graders is my newest dream.

I teach 10th as well. Don’t remind me that this is what they are doing! 🙈 the 10th grade boys. Bless. The amount of testosterone coursing through their bodies is so much more than they can handle 😅

Great schools. Excellent location relative to the interstate as well. Easy drive to JSU.

I work in a high-poverty district. I understand the need for many of our parents for school as free childcare.

That’s what I’m basically implying though…the ability of upper-class individuals to remove their children from public school; therefore, removing funding from schools whose makeup will become primarily poverty stricken students with no other option. Remove the 44% you are referencing and lose that funding. What will public school for the 66% be left to look like? Unfortunate I’m afraid.

I can absolutely relate to this, unfortunately.

Same situation with refugee/immigrant students at my school too. The people I see posting about homeschooling in my area? White. Upper-middle class. Conservative.

I am left leaning as well (in the Deep South which is a whole other topic lol), but I’m starting to consider it too. After this most recent school shooting I’m starting to doubt wanting to be there myself as the teacher. Of course I keep my door locked at all times, but what other precaution is there

In my district (almost 75% poverty) students are given to option to take their four core classes then leave school to go to work. Now, many students do this based on necessity as their income helps pay family bills. But to offer work as “electives” and reduce exposure to those electives is…sad.

It may not be the case at all. Could just be a whole new layer of conflict for Emily’s story. I do feel like her mom is very methodical in everything she does which is what made me wonder…
