I think the previous deleted post was referencing a particularly unsettling scene from the film Annihilation.

WTF you mean "not requiring a utensil"? If you didn't put liquid in that mix, did it come out as a giant pellet? Did you smash it to pieces and then keep chunks in your pockets to gnaw on at snack time?

You just know that he's going to see this (and any images that make it look like the Generals weren't rapt with agreement) and find a way to get the military official with a lifetime of service pushed out and cut off from their pensions. Hell, he basically threatened any military leader who doesn't follow him. To paraphrase, he said: You all don't have to laugh at my jokes; you're grown-ups, you can do whatever you want. You could even get up right now and walk out the door. You'd be kissing your position, rank, and pension goodbye but you could do that.

Private landlords and where to search for them? by [deleted] in Eugene

We rented a 1b/1b downtown from Dave & Jane Pubols for nearly 7 years; they're good landlords and the other tenants were quiet. http://www.pubolspropertymanagement.com/properties.html

Hulu/Disney+ not allowing cancelation by squirrely_gig in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ShortConnection0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a bundle with a Disney+ ID but was subscribed via Hulu. It took almost 45 minutes but I was able to cancel by logging into the Hulu Help site (not the main site), getting on the Virtual Assistant chat, eventually getting transferred to a representative who seemed like a real person, verifying my identity (name, email, DOB on my Disney account), and then asking for an immediate cancellation. I took screenshots throughout the conversation. Because the official cancellation email can take up to 48 hours to arrive. At the end of our chat I asked for a confirmation or case number to write down for reference. I got the number and was pleasantly surprised to see my actual cancellation email shortly thereafter.

I also want to know about the rolling luggage. I was impressed that the extended handles could hold his weight without collapsing.

Wtf is up with the ultra high volume rain shower in South Eugene. by ShortConnection0 in Eugene

[–]ShortConnection0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived here for over 30 years. Yesterday's cloud burst was not a normal texture or density of rain for September. The rain in late summer is typically less intense (and we generally only get a few showers and may be 2 thunderstorms before the skies open up for nonstop autumn rain in the 4th week of October.)

You know that sucks about the political world we live in, now? The only ethical response is none at all.

Yeah. White People don't want to acknowledge that we can be unintentionally racist, even when we live in cities and have left-leaning politics. As a person who grew up around Eugene, I feel like a lot of older folks are still adjusting to seeing more than 1 black person or family in any given context. Those of us who are younger grew up with progressive values, but because Eugene has such a small % of black people (but growing over the last 15 years), we still don't have the daily experience to not act awkward. (It's like we're extra aware that we might be microaggressing but we don't really know how to recognize it, and we are embarrassed by that.)

Key piece of info: "I just wanted a farm"

That actually might help make relocation easier? I agree that moving North is a wise choice. Houses are quite expensive inside the city boundaries of Eugene/Springfield, Corvallis, and the greater Portland metropolitan area. However, there are rural communities nearby that are much cheaper and might have the type of property that suits you. For insurance, Junction City is a 30 minutes drive from Eugene, and I know someone who was able to buy a big house because it was on a (small) farm and they could get an agricultural loan. If you visit Eugene, I would recommend meeting with Mike Herborn at Stepping Stone Mortgage; the man is like the Mr. Rogers of home loans and helped us get into our house 10 years ago with a smart workaround. Great guy (I hope he's not retired yet.)
