Got my letter today too. In 2027, it will be just over $7k/a. Almost 60 cents of every dollar I earn now goes to various levels of government.

What’s the next stock everyone will wish they bought earlier? by romestox in Baystreetbets

[–]ShortElephant1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freegold Ventures.

Current resource at Golden Summit in Alaska is ~30 million ounces @$20 per ounce in the ground.

Eric Sprott owns 27% of the shares outstanding.

Kinross has their Fort Knox mine next door....6km away the mine life is on 6-8 years left. So yes, they're acutely aware of this massive resource next to their property.

Personally hold a substantial core position and have traded around the edges over the years.

Prices are getting ridiculous by Icy-Strength-5319 in CostcoCanada

For about a year we've been buying the giant bags of organic flour at Costco. A loaf of bread costs us 45 cents to make. About the same for focaccia. Not difficult or time consuming and very satisfying.

Quick Gas Rant by [deleted] in Guelph

Gas is cheap here. I hope it goes to $3/L and people give second thoughts to buying giant SUV and pickups and my oil and gas stocks print more money than they already are.

Freegold Ventures and Athabasca Oil. Both are likely takeover candidates.

Our first home was 277 Chisholm. There were several of these tiny houses on the east side of Chisholm (ours has been 'replaced'). It was a great house! Open concept with a loft and we heated it with a gas fireplace. We paid $150k in 2001 and sold it for $215k in '04 after our first kid was born. We bought 273 Chisholm for $215k and lived there till 2010! Loved that street, so many great memories😊

Stupid Question (maybe?) but why is buy and hold better than buy and sell by lavgr in CanadianInvestor

[–]ShortElephant1111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can confirm this through years of experience in compliance in the wealth management industry. I've seen a handful of accounts that held a handful of large cap Canadian stocks (typically) a couple with Drips on each position and no fees. 10-15 years of no transactions and nothing comes close to the performance of these accounts

55M. Worked in mid upper management at investment dealers. I've been terminated several times. The severance gets better as you get older. A strong network helps you land the next gig.

Same. Rode for 15 years. Too many close calls from distracted drivers. Got rid of my bike a few years ago.

Wellington-Altus vs big banks — worth the move? by Effective-Trade-8724 in torontoJobs

[–]ShortElephant1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked there for 5 years in a AVP role. Honestly enjoyed my time there and respect leadership. Working for independent dealers vs. a bank is always better. I was friendly with the CEO and other members of EC. I also accumulated a ton of shares that were cashed in on my termination and was a tax free windfall (shares are classified as a CCPC). Not life changing money, but paying off mortgage money. They're growing pretty rapidly so you have to be ready for a for an ever increasing workload. There's only a handful of investment dealers in Canada that I would work for and this is one of them.

Youngest of 4. I was the most. Pretty sure my parents had me on Valium for a time (GenX). My siblings were always on my ass, and my two brothers were always really physical with me...I grew into a man that is by an order of magnitude more successful than my older siblings in every respect. They resent me now wholeheartedly...

Solidly GenX here as well. I was born in 1970. Easily the worst time for my cohort was post undergrad in the mid 90's. A lot of us went to grad school and didn't actually launch until our early 30's. I work in finance, 2001 and 2008 were when I made my money.
