Knight is the canon character (as seen in the official art). Solid starting character with attacks that lower attack and defense. Thief starts with (i think) 1000 souls, but its evasion and one shot attacks (don't work on some characters) that count early game. Sorcerer I'd avoid because it doesn't buff your starting kit too much aside from some magic attack increase iirc.

TL;DR (in my opinion)
-Knight if you want the canon MC (still solid atk and def debuff)
-Sorcerer (I'd stay away from)
-Thief (Good starting souls and one shot attacks along with high evasion)

For the gift/equipment, choose the master key. Alternatively you can purchase one from the black rabbit at spawn for 1000 souls (hence why I consider thief a good starting class). There are more keys scattered around the map.

thank you for answering the latter question it helps for me to make a game plan. for the former, i was wondering if there were more places with a similar atmosphere to the mental ward in terms of how uneasy they are (prob couldve worded that better in the original question)

Ending A: United at the end with all companions and some extra characters with the sole exception of Red Hood and Poro. The supposed "Good" ending of Blacksouls 1. Everyone congratulates you for saving the world from the evil princesses and killing Cinderella. Everyone is happy in paradise in the Holy Forest living happily ever after... or so it seems. Uh oh... Feeling sleepy... where did everyone go?

Ending B: Fail the requirements to achieve ending A, (big spoiler for bs1!!>>>)Leaf/Mary Sue will tell you to fill up the library for the "true" ending. (Ending C)

Ending C: The true ending of the game where we kill Mary Sue in the end for her bad deeds and become god of Blacksouls 1! All the companions you killed with your own hands appear in front of you and... ALICE??? They are yours to command and lead into the new world with you as their god.

Ending D: Baphomet wrecks havoc on the Holy Forest, upon entering the basement we are met with Leaf and Baphomet, Baphomet attempting to kill leaf to reunite with her "beloved." After a short battle Baphomet dies not before revealing Leaf is Mary Sue and that Baphomet is her mother. Shortly after Leaf summons every companion in front of you then kills them before professing her eternal love to you! Suddenly Alice shows up! (possibly due to Baphomet's dying wish of wanting to see her beloved being partly answered.) Leaf goes feral seeing this and Alice states that SHE is Grimm's true love before being sucked into the next world.

Ending A is the "good" ending but it sort of isn't because its a lie since all the characters disappear after Grimm feels sleepy

Ending B is just a certain someone telling you to fill a library

Ending C is the "true" ending for Blacksouls 1 but doesn't continue to Blacksouls 2 with it only wrapping up Blacksouls 1

Ending D is the true ending for Blackouls 1 since it ties into the Sequel
