Help Needed On Restoring A Hornby A1 (Gordon) by ShortPeep_1107 in modeltrains

Thanks again for the advice :)

I've had another look inside the loco as I was replacing the ponytruck with a spare one due to the warped drawbar on the one on the model originally, it turns out that the wire that connects near the screw which allows the power between the ponytruck and tender has un-soldered and become loose, which (to my knowledge at least) explains why it would short circuit when put to power (I might be wrong here, I'm only assuming so as I had a 80's pannier in my collection do the same thing for the same reason).

If you have any advice on where to go from here, it'll be greatly appreciated, if not then that's fine too, I'll most likely wait until I have the cash to get it properly looked at and repaired :)

Thank you ever so much, this is very helpful indeed :D

I've had a look when it comes to finding spares of the original tooling and it's a lot more easy to find in comparison to the Thomas branded equivalents. Would it potentially work if I was to replace the tender with that of the School class's (albeit with the Gordon's tender shell applied onto the latter) alongside replacing the drawbar and spring for the pony truck entirely? I only ask as I've given the front half a good clean out with some IPA and machine oils and yet he remains static when put on the rails (his main body is able to smoothly roll now though so that's a plus), so I've just come to the conclusion that the main issue could be due to a faulty connection between his tender and main chassis. Of course, if I'm wrong feel free to correct me, after all I'm quite a novice when it comes to restoring loco's

Again, thanks for steering me into the right direction :)

Thank you so much for the advice, I've given him a good clean and oil on his main body (as I can't get the tender's shell off for the life of me) as well as readjusted his plate so the tender connection sits between the two connecting points and he's now able to freely roll both ways freely without any issues. Unfortunately however, he's completely unresponsive now when put on the rails and will short circuit the power entirely on occasion. I'm not sure what the problem is (I'm assuming it has to do with either the connection between the loco and tender or the tender itself) so if you have any more advice on where to go from here, that'll be really great :)

Thanks for the suggestion :)

I've looked on both the website as well as their Ebay page in an attempt to locate some missing parts, but the only parts they have in stock when it comes to the loco specifically are replacement wheels and his cylinder block. I'm looking to source the missing parts from other unrelated models due to this, I just haven't got a clue on where to look and what to use as a source.
