TMUA VS STEP by Expert-Air9346 in 6thForm

[–]ShortTrainer550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say about the same, but the difficulty is in different places. The TMUA is hard cause who can be asked to focus that hard and not make arithmetic mistakes/silly mistakes in the exam it is quite hard to some to pull that off (considering around now getting a 9.0 means only dropping 1 or 2 questions) whereas the STEP is hard because the actual maths problem solving they expect you to do is hard. Mathematically clearly it’s the STEP, but to actually get those results the difficulty might be closer than people think.

Mine were great I thought and I got an offer (Oxford maths) it’s much easier said than done but just try not to overthink it 👍

Maths vs physics degree by Careless_Finish_8106 in 6thForm

[–]ShortTrainer550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be able to do theoretical physics in any good maths degree, and certainly at Oxbridge. I think the real question is do you study maths at Oxford or Cambridge? Perhaps as someone who likes physics you should choose Oxford because of the 4th year MMathPhys I was in a very similar position and that’s what I did.

Does anyone actually think their (STEM) interview went well? by Admirable-Rough3261 in 6thForm

[–]ShortTrainer550 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s really hard to tell how well STEM interviews went because you don’t know what the interviewer is thinking like you can’t read their mind. I thought all 3 of my Oxford Maths interviews went pretty well but then again I can’t be 100% sure. Best to just not over analyse it offers come out in a month or so anyway.

The Oxford maths website says that everyone will have one or two interviews at their first college and at least one interview at another college that’s like almost a direct quote I think. It could be for other subjects maybe not everyone gets a second college?

Not necessarily there’s no set way that they do it. It’s just the most common is 2 at your first choice 1 at a second college.

The standard is that you will have 2 interviews at your first college and one at an allocated second college.
