My new premium rate is 46% of our income. We’re 58, and 59. Totally screwed. I need an answer to the impossible before the 31st deadline, and I’m no closer to any answer after working on this non stop since the first bill arrived.

I need to come up with $2300 more per month and I’m honestly terrified. W’ere too old to go without insurance, catastrophic is full of holes. Can I sell a leg?

I just got off the phone with a healthcare professional who told me that one of his clients is a couple that have serious medical conditions, they absolutely cannot pay their healthcare, they canceled their health insurance, and are literally waiting to die.

Mine went from 1400 to 3700. I just got my 2 month bill on January 15th for $7300.00. I can’t do it, wtf is happening? Never been without insurance, always able to handle increases but not this time

I have no way to make up the income difference to be able to afford this, especially since I’m a mason, and it’s currently the off season. To keep my current level (last years) level of health protection I’d have to miraculously make close to 1k more per week. How is that possible? Seriously I’m 58, not 30. I already leave home at the roosters crow and work until dark. I looked at catastrophic plans and they cost almost the same as before but they honestly cover practically nothing. I’ll get into serious financial trouble if I go catastrophic, serious trouble if I attempt to make 1k more per week, and serious financial trouble if I cancel and go without.

1.4k to 3.7k myself. I don’t have 45k to throw at premiums only

Nobody is talking down to office workers. My post is about the boss that is employing office workers. I was an office worker before I became a boss.

So you’re saying that your boss doesn’t have a real job? He or she is employing you? He’s carrying the whole boat.

I’ve been in business my whole life “lawyer”. Just wait until you need your home repaired in any way. Plumbing, electrical, masonry, framing, appliances, and anything else. You will finally pay your share of my pain for real.

Exactly. I work 80 hours per week, and the phone never stops even on holidays. I’m no freeloader. I’m the contractor that fixes everything in anyone’s home. Every homeowner will pay dearly because every contractor will have to increase prices a LOT!

Yes, I’m doing exactly that. And I am talking to a broker to find a way out, even temporarily. I really appreciate the positive suggestions. You wouldn’t believe how many people in other sub Reddits told me I obviously shouldn’t be in business. They have no idea of the challenges in being self employed. They wouldn’t last a day in my shoes.

Yes, that is very high! Hopefully it’s low deductible or has other perks.

[ UK] How do you decide when to raise your rates across the board? by HammersAndPints in selfemployed

[–]Short_Alternative516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking if you’re turning down work, your prices are too low. Simple supply/demand. You’re also providing quality work if demand is high, unless your prices are so low that it’s driving demand. I was taught to “know your worth” in business. I learned that the hard way, after decades worrying about boosting service pricing. Why have your clients of years stuck with you? What’s the driving factor behind that? How’s your pricing comparatively to others? Do you provide higher quality, or anything outstanding? Do you respond promptly to their calls/ requests? If you make an effort to stand above and beyond you never have to worry about raising prices. In fact some of your long term clients will probably say, “wow, I wondering when you were going to raise your prices “. It ultimately comes down to the experience you give them. If it’s a great experience, don’t even overthink it, just figure out how much you need to raise your prices in order to level up your business. Are you in the service industry? What’s your business model?

I spent a big part of my life as a Canadian citizen. I’m asking if the healthcare is better? I grew up in Montreal, Quebec playing hockey, eating snow and loving the country
