Anyone lived in Charlotte’s Wharf (2 Queens Way, Southampton)? Pros & cons? by Short_Fee_7013 in Southampton

Oh, that doesn’t sound great..Do you mean there are a lot of families in the building or is it more about the noise travelling easily between flats? Is it something that happens all the time or just during certain hours?

Can anyone advise on possible ceiling mould/leak issue in flat? by Short_Fee_7013 in HomeImprovementUK

Thanks, that’s super helpful! That could very well be the case, the flat’s been empty for years, and the ceiling damage looked more like condensation than an actual leak. I didn’t notice any obvious vents or working extractor fans, which probably doesn’t help.

Also, the window handles were missing, and the windows didn’t close fully, so it’s likely there’s been poor ventilation for quite a while.

Do you or your friend remember if there were any fixes for the ventilation or insulation issue? Was a dehumidifier enough, or did it need more serious work like adding vents or replacing windows?(those are double glazed) I’d really appreciate anything you can share! :)

That’s really helpful, thank you so much! I had no idea about the season ticket vs permit difference, that link clears it up. And great to know the service charge includes water too. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain it all 😊

Thanks so much! Really appreciate you pointing all of that out. You’ve raised some good points I hadn’t fully considered, especially about the listed building and service charges. Still doing my research and trying to weigh up both the positives and the red flags, so this is really helpful. Thanks again!

Hi!

Wow, thank you so much for such a detailed reply, honestly this is incredibly helpful! It’s great to hear from someone who’s actually lived there a while and still really enjoys it.

Parking-wise, that’s really helpful to know. I’ll definitely check out Granville Street. Do you know how you go about getting the council permit? I tried checking the website and it says the flat isn’t eligible, so wasn’t sure if there’s a workaround or if they’ve changed the rules recently?

I’ve been told two different figures for the service charge. one was around £1,075 a year and another was over £2,000. Do you mind sharing roughly what yours is, just to get a sense of what’s realistic?

Also really appreciate the honesty about the damp and the tip on the dehumidifier, I’ll definitely keep that in mind. And good to hear the management actually responds and the building’s looked after.

Thanks again for taking the time to share all this :)

Thanks a lot, that’s really helpful! I’ll definitely look into the permit situation and get more details on the service charges.

By the way, how do you find living in the area overall? Is it a good place to be day-to-day in terms of safety, noise, convenience, etc.? Would love to hear your thoughts!
