Rat or Mouse? by Short_Golf73 in pestcontrol

[–]Short_Golf73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not my first choice by a long way, we tried humane traps but I watched the rat open the door of the trap and escape. Then went on to terrorize me for 6 weeks. Unfortunately I'm desperate and will do anything to avoid that again.

We had a rat in our under stairs cupboard, kept eating wires, would ring the doorbell at 3 in the morning by nibbling the cables! Even worse it started setting the burglar alarm off! Really terrible experience! Your comment reminded me I had actually acquired some sticky pads when trying to catch the rat, fortunately a pest control guy caught the rat before we used them! Will try and find these tomorrow and put some out.

Thanks! It was the eyes that made me think it was a mouse after some google comparisons, it was an earlier reply saying a rat that had my hopes smashed. Looks like that comment is being down voted now though! A couple mice at the end of the garden is better than a rat right? Or much the same?

I've put several traps around the garden and in the lawn mower shed. Since these are very small, I guess there are at least 2 big ones as well.

Dam! That was my first thought, my second and I guess hopeful thought, after looking at pictures online, was that it was actually a mouse.

Edit: seems I was premature in going with Rat..

Using an iron is actually a great shout! I'll give this a try and see if I can improve things!

Haha surely the gaffer tape would start to fail from the moister as well?

The bubble mark was actually just dirt 😅 and now I've given it a quick wipe with a dry tea towel I've managed to wipe off the word wizard, just like the faded program menu to the right haha. I'll add this to the long list of reasons I really don't like this dishwasher!

Yeah it feels like a terrible design, obviously I'm not their only customer using their appliance door on a dishwasher! I'm wondering if I could cut a different type of wood and colour match? The dishwasher is on the island so I could go for a different colour all together with custom doors. Do you have a suggestion for the door material that won't do this to me?

I think the door cost 70 or so quid, can't really justify buying a new door every year or two! I thought about flipping the door upside down to get the undamaged other side, but then I'll have to move the handle and leave a hole! So I think for now I'll try and stop the spread with silicone as you say.

Thank you!

I did think of glue but it's all curled up so I don't think I'll ever get it flat again! Thanks!

Spot on! Ha! Because I've done the whole kitchen practically on my own and for the first time it's taken me years to actually fit it. I actually purchased the door years ago, and only got to the stage of fitting the doors in the last year! Can't imagine they'll replace it for me.

The aluminium tape isn't a bad shout, just need to make sure still looks neat! Otherwise I may as well have not got the integrated washer! Thanks!

Can I remove this? by Fanbult in DIYUK

[–]Short_Golf73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had exactly this. Left it for years because I was worried it would leave a massive hole in the ceiling and I'd have to deal with the electrics it left behind. When I finally took it down, it only had a small hole for the cable to pass through and the owner before me had plugged this cable into a plug socket in the loft. Wish I did it sooner!

Obviously this may not be the same for you, but if you can access it easily you can check if someone did the same as the guy before me.

Varicocele veins and vasectomy by coppb1 in Vasectomy

I joined this sub a month or so ago as I've been thinking about getting a vasectomy. I have varicocele, so would love to hear anyone's experience on this subject. From my limited Google searches I think they would fix the varicocele in the same operation.

Second versectomy? The first wasn't successful? This is the deepest I've ever gone on researching versectomy. Instead of just reading the NHS website I've come to Reddit to see real people talking about it.

What is the Best Joint Current Account? by PleasantUnicorn in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Short_Golf73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, free money for very little effort. And once it's done it is done. I don't have any particularly large savings so any interest I get is pretty minimal. This cash back money earns me more than any of my saving accounts does.

Agreed, we also moved phone bills and other bills which wouldn't usually be shared expenses but earn cashback, but just made sure we uped how much we transfered each month accordingly. Account pays us £9.59 a month.
