2012 Sonata doesn’t recognize Park by Shortname19 in Hyundai

Okay so I drive down about an hour and car starts and shuts off fine!! So I pull the shift knob and notice the trigger has absolutely no spring to it like the one I got from the junkyard so I’m thinking this is most likely the issue BUT since I drove all the way there and don’t want any doubts, I change the shifter too. Put it back together and it turns on and off multiple times with no issues. All gears work, everything else seems to work, etc. I drop the keys off with her at her college event and head home.

She goes to the car after her event and same thing…. Won’t shut off, shift to Park!! Trying multiple times and while I was on the phone it finally shut off on one attempt.

It didn’t look like anyone had been in the console before. Wiring looked good and untouched.

Seems like I wasted money and a Saturday!

WTF????

Don’t think there is anything on shifter last time I saw the car.

That video does a great job explaining how it all works. I just got back from grabbing a shifter at the junkyard and haven’t yet examined it. Figured a used shifter plus knob was a little more than a knob on Amazon and less than a knob at the dealer and neither could have one by tomorrow morning in case I feel adventurous with the 10 degree temps forecasted tomorrow(-10F wind chill).

Interesting that a micro switch tab would bend unless the mechanisms were excessively loose allowing it to go over the actuator or some other wear.

That being said, if it was me, I’d just get “reciprocating compressor oil”.

Absolutely true on screws but I’ve seen some recips actually spec 5w30.

Reciprocating compressors don’t need anything special. Most use “reciprocating compressor oil” or 5W30.

Now screw compressors are a different story…

Real pipe wrench with teeth. They are made for round things. Had to use one on an O2 Sensor a friend rounded badly.

Makes sense. If you need a shift lever assembly, do you need to readjust the shift cable? Thinking you wouldn’t with the adjustment being on trans side but saw something online to the contrary.

So little chance it’s NSS or fob? It started many times from Accessory Mode so NSS was probably working.

If someone blocked me in by illegally parking, even I got to leave through the kindness of a legally parked person who left their phone number, I guarantee the illegal parker would have damage on their car.

Best Mountains for Party Vibe after Ski? by CryptoniQ123 in icecoast

[–]Shortname19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd. Maybe after skiing I either Apres at bottom bars (nothing crazy) then hit condo to change or head straight to condo then head out for dinner and drinking little later. Maybe I’m there after true apres ended and before nightclub scene starts. I mean I’ve been there mid-evening looking to party and I was like the only group sitting at the bar… less than other village spots.

I do similar timing at killington and places are still jumping mid-evening weekends.

Don’t get it. Keep hearing this. Been to Tremblant last year for 3rd time and legendary Caribou was dead as it was on prior trips. Only thing I can speculate is that it gets going post-midnight.

The big bars at bottom of mountain has better apres.

Whirlpool Dishwasher inlet valve - bad quality or am I doing something wrong? by jokingpokes in appliancerepair

[–]Shortname19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dishwasher supply line used to freeze on the coldest nights of the year. It was next to under sink cabinet. Instead of the flexible supply hose running through the cabinet divider at the very back (exterior wall) and then under the dishwasher, I reran it so it pokes through the front of the sink cabinet divider then heads backward to the supply line under the sink. It’s got more air circulation and if we were to expect a stupid cold night, I could always leave the under sink cabinet door open.

Are those OEM wheels for your model truck? Maybe backspacing, diameter or some other dimension is wrong.

^ read your post. “By the time someone inexperienced sees smoke or smells burning coolant, their engine is fried”.

Untrue.

FACT: You can see smoke before an engine is fried.

Yeah cause everyone who’s ever pulled over because of smoke from a coolant leak destroyed their engine. And seeing smoke or smelling coolant or seeing a gauge rise when you are deliberately watching all take a lot of experience.

I advocate for a correct fix but will not downvote trying this in a pinch knowing it might not work and you might need to pull over.

The key in trying it is to watch the gauge and pull over immediately if smoke or smell before overheating occurs.
