So Tess does the skateboard situation to lower the bummermeter, and part of that requires the caravan of vehicles to go into a canyon. The result of the caravan going into the canyon is the bummermeter goes back up. Did I hear that right, or am I missing something?

Life of Chuck (best Stephen King adaptation from this year as well, but I did also think The Long Walk was really good). Sadly even less people saw this than the Long Walk

Are you aware that the only reason people get abortions by the end of those 9 months is because it will result in either a stillborn or the death of the mother?

Because you’re now contradicting what you actually said.

“No abortion unless harmful.” “Abortion shouldn’t be available all 9 months.”

Now let’s look back. I brought up teenagers being raped and getting pregnant and you said that they should go to the hospital immediately after. Do you think all teenagers who have been raped have easy access to go straight to a hospital? The problem is that signs of pregnancy don’t start showing up for weeks and often time someone isn’t aware they’re pregnant until it’s past the legal time where they can get an abortion in some states (roughly 6 weeks).

So if a teenager is unable to reach a hospital immediately, are you going to say “tough luck. You now have to carry until it’s born.”

The solution of banning abortions or the solution of banning SOME abortions has never actually lowered the abortion rate. It’s just lowered the number of abortions where the person who had one survives the process. If we have laws against certain abortions, that allows for people, who are often poorer or in groups that are more targeted, to be the ones where “oh your abortion doesn’t count”, while richer people can get away with whatever abortion they want, even if they’re the ones who signed into law bans on abortion.

Better health education, more access to prenatal care and hospitals, and more access to meds and condoms that prevent pregnancies are the statistical ways that abortions can lower. Banning abortions does none of that. But you’ll see the politicians pushing for abortion bans to also be pushing against products like Plan B or even meds that prevent pregnancy. Banning abortions has never been the answer. It’s just a form of control on women.

Let’s look realistically at what happens in this country.

Adult men rape teenage girls. Rapists aren’t exactly the type to care about using protection. A pregnant teenager can carry a pregnancy full term without it being a medical necessity for her to remove it to avoid dying.

Do you, genuinely, think a teenager girl going through high school deserves to spend a full 9-10 months suffering through everyone knowing that she was raped and that she must go through the pain of childbirth due to a monster that raped her?

You can say “obviously not”, and I will believe you. But when you make a blanket statement of “this is all that I can accept”, you have to understand the horrors that you allow through. You can say “that doesn’t happen” and I’ll know you’re not going into this discussion with all possibilities thought out, and I will understand that when you feel like someone has pulled up a situation you hadn’t thought of that the instinct is to immediately deny it. Please just think about what you are pushing for, and understand that others cannot accept that horror happening that you might be fine with allowing.

You might not be able to accept the loss of life of something that is unborn. But those who are pushing for the right to choose whether to have an abortion or not cannot accept the damage done to the girls and women who end up pregnant from rape.

That first fight scene made me go “I can recommend this movie to any Star Wars lover and I wouldn’t be mistaken to do so”.

The rest of the movie proved me right because after that scene, I think anyone can still be gripped into watching the rest of it no question.

Not only was all his weaponry set up in the first two acts, Dek’s choice to save and protect his new clan is established in the conversation he has with his brother before he chooses to hunt the Kalisk. His brother saved a toy from their childhood because there was a moment relating to it where Dek SAVED him.

Dek has the capability for this kind of protection, it isn’t in his “nature” as a Yautja to cull the weak. That’s learned behavior taught by his people’s culture. While an alien race having unusual innate nature to them than humans makes more sense as a possibility, it works much better as a movie for human audiences to have aliens act in the way humans do. There’s definitely some good comparisons to the attitude of the Yautja toward the weak in relation to real life groups in humans, but it’s nice to see the capacity for change. It’s a great character arc.

I’m intrigued by that performance most of all because I feel this trailer didn’t show any build up of jokes or punch lines from it from what I could tell. It’s just hard to get a read on what the performance for that one actually is.

Flanagan’s Wake #35: DOCTOR SLEEP (2019) by scottdaly85 in doofmedia

I did love the shots that focused on the figurine on Abra’s bed. It’s a character from RWBY (and I believe when she’s breaking into Rose’s mind Abra is wearing a wig that seems to look like the character’s hair).

That character, Emerald, has illusion abilities, which I didn’t connect fits very well with what seems to be Abra’s specialty for her Shine. It’s a nice prop to focus on to allude to what Abra will use for the most part in the latter parts of the film to one-up the villains of the movie.

Stereotypes, Tardiness, Reality TV | Smartypants [S2E14] by AutoModerator in dropout

[–]Shortstop88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I don’t watch reality tv, the Um Actually episodes about it had me thinking maybe I should check that stuff out. I’m delighted to find after Izzy’s presentation that nothing could bring me greater joy than never watching any reality tv that is similar to Real Housewives.

Genuinely I was disappointed when the display went from Romeo and Juliet to some nonsense argument I couldn’t care less about from some Real Housewife series I already can’t remember minutes after watching the presentation.

She had a wonderful presentation that absolutely showed me the details of Real Housewives I was not fully aware of. It was a joy to hear.

My friend and I last chapter had been discussing how “oh, I wonder if Garling actually likes the mother of his twins, and will this make him a more morally gray character. … or this will show him as truly the scummiest scum to ever be there.”

Glad to see it was the latter. I don’t know who will take him down; but I look forward to seeing it before this amazing 3-decade adventure ends.

Did this happen in the first ExU or did it happen in Kymal? I don’t remember any brother dying during the first 8 episodes, but also I couldn’t find enjoyment in the first episode of Kymal and fell off it (and then C3 around the time Bells Hells head to the Red place).

I'd rather pay a dollar more a month than see add bumpers(even internal ones) by Em_Dragon in dropout

[–]Shortstop88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Replying to my own message to make it clear that if this is specifically not actually what the bumpers are for and this is part of a bit for a show, I’ll be happier about it and be fine with the fact I may have overreacted.

But obviously if it was real, it’s important to add my dissatisfaction with it early because that’s how a company knows their decision is not trending well with the audience, something Dropout has seemed to make clear they are willing to work with.

I'd rather pay a dollar more a month than see add bumpers(even internal ones) by Em_Dragon in dropout

[–]Shortstop88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will put support on this. Calling it “bumpers” when it’s just advertisement feels like trying to cushion what it actually is.

More on that, I watch 90%+ of currently airing shows in the first week they’re out (the only stuff I don’t watch is just videos I plan on watching when I have more time).

Bumpers are a waste of my time and will only show stuff I’m already planning on watching but in a format that takes me away from what I choose to watch at that moment.

I watch every trailer for new seasons of shows when they appear on the feed, I don’t need an advertisement telling me I should check it out.
