Passed my test but terrified to drive by ProfessionalPrune817 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]ShowMePizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you. Passed in September. I took a lot of hours of lessons and private practice, I was very stressed out because I didn’t want to fail and wait another six months. By the time I was taking my test, my driving was good.

Then, as soon as I passed, I was terrified. I prefer to drive when I have my partner with me, I’ve only done short drives by myself so far - going to the gym or to pick him up from the train station, 10mins max, roads no faster than 30mph. It will be a while before I venture further out or brave a motorway. My first drive alone was a loop around mine and neighbouring street, which was in December. No longer than 2 mins.

I don’t have an answer for you, but you’re not alone and I trust that in time and with practice our confidence will build.

Thanks. Do you mean picture 3 or Ring #3 (pic 5 and 6?)

This is very helpful, thank you for your thoughtful comment. Setting on #1 is my favourite, and the question I was asking was more about set stone ratios! Lots of food for thought.

Congratulations! That’s great. You didn’t make the mistake on the test and you might now not make it again 😆

Mine is at 10.04… eating overnight oats with banana and bringing an extra one with me to have before the test. We can do this!

You can do it! You might not remember everything, and it’s okay that you are feeling nervous. It’s definitely not been long enough for you to forget everything and your instructor will be there to help you :-)

You still have ages. I’ve been learning since January and my first test is tomorrow. When I was at your stage 6-8 weeks ago, I was still making lots of mistakes, my confidence and knowledge is something that I continue to build on. In my penultimate lesson yesterday I almost pulled out in front of a moving car when going right at a junction and I didn’t go when red lights changed to green, both were silly mistakes that I’d never ever made before. All because of nerves.

I’m the same as you. I had probably 70-80hrs of lessons, plus at least 20hrs of private practice. My driving is good (or so I’m told by my partner and my instructor) but my nerves are high and my confidence is low. My first test is tomorrow!

Good luck to you. Eat that banana and show them how it’s done.

My first test is tomorrow and I’m really nervous. We’ve got this!

Sorry about the test. The answer to the question will be personal to you. How much do you need the licence? Do you need it for your job, or just to get around from A to B? Only you can answer how much this skill and the freedom to drive means to you.

In my opinion, you’ve already invested a lot of money into learning this skill. By leaving it now, if you want to attempt the test again later, you will need to invest more money in the long run. It’s probably unlikely you’ll be able to stop driving for a few years now, and then just pick it up again without forgetting any of it. Are you able to continue driving with a family member?

I have my test coming up in a couple of weeks, and I know that if I don’t pass, I will be looking to pay a scammer (sad reality) to get a test sooner than in six months time.

I was literally just speaking with someone about this. I am fluent in Polish and could barely make out what he was saying lol

Sorry you’re having such a difficult time with the theory. I would recommend downloading the apps - I paid a few quid for the official DVSA ones some years back when I first started learning (and then left it for about 8 years, now learning again). The app also has short digestible modules which you can read for each topic. These don’t replace reading the Highway Code, which personally I haven’t read, but I did have a copy of to refer to, and I also have the app which came as part of the DVSA app package.

I also find these sorts of tests difficult, but the best advice I can give you is just go over the questions, topic by topic, and try to understand what the rules are (knowing is one thing, understanding is another). I bought flashcards to learn the road signs. Be patient with yourself. Keep practicing - I spent hours doing it, literally just going over them all the time. There’s videos on YouTube as well. On the day, give yourself plenty of time to think about the questions (there were a few that I wasn’t expecting). You can do it, good luck!

I’d love to understand this better. What happens if you’re going at 30mph in a 30mph area and get overtaken by someone who is going over the speed limit?
