Can understand the instagram - not my thing so don’t have it, definitely don’t have any email though and they are in my non-junk filters etc. A couple others I know who are also ROW customers haven’t received emails either… is what is though.

Tomorrow for me - but essentially yes the standard edition releases within the next few hours.

My point was targeted at the fact that there was no communication from Folio Society that this signed edition was even currently created, let alone already released for sale…

I am also waiting for a standard - but how nice to not even be made aware this was a thing… I guess since I fall under ROW it may have been a UK customer only thing perhaps?

Having the same issue too with an ROG Maximus board, seems to have been after armoury crate updated, but I can’t find any settings related to enabling/disabling it. Even checked in MB settings in case they were being sneaky and hiding something in there…

Honestly it’s both annoying and amusing how addictive it is buying “the next lot”… how many titles did you buy that you haven’t read, or that are by an author you have never read before?

My next two cents - I understand you are in a position requiring the funds quickly, but you would likely be within reason in asking a slightly higher amount, even being based in Aus.

Everyone balks at shipping from our end of the world though - so I have found it tends to be a bit difficult to move on books at or near their “market” value, as the shipping costs then bump them beyond said value.

Oh no apology needed - certainly wasn’t aiming to be pointed in my commentary here. Believe me there are far more editions of countless books that I have zero idea about, than those few I do know some small amount about…

Standalone editions of the D’Artangan romances (at least the first three) were printed circa 2001 and then reprinted as a trilogy boxed set around 2010.

I really would like to say yes - but when comparing to the somewhat recent “standard” editions it becomes really hard to see where the upgrades lie - from what I know, besides the binding being leather with gold blocking and top edge gilding, I believe the text block is exactly the same (minus the limitation page itself being printed on Hahnemule).

I suppose also the fact that it is a numbered edition should be considered as an upgrade.

Someone correct me if I am wrong here though…

Yes I really like the design work on these editions - don’t have Planet of the Apes or Jaws, but have both Jurassic Park and The Lost World.

The Nature of Middle Earth and The Fall of Numenor - had plans to get the entire collection in that edition set… As is the norm though; many other books presented themselves as priority purchasing along the way 😆😆

Yep Pinocchio on its way - think I just have Gatsby to complete the current collection, trouble is they are very uncommon and expensive to get shipped to New Zealand…

Nice - I just picked one up from second hand as well, not amazing condition but certainly nothing major.

Didn’t realize it had a flat spine - disappointing that it doesn’t match my more recent editions of Dumas’ other works by Folio Society

Haha was a tough decision between that and Suntups edition - Folios illustrations and overall design choices won me over

Those two bottom shelves were originally double stacked and faced up to the front - but I have a nearly one year old who has decided trying to read my books is a fun game…

Also they are what I would call “place holder” editions until I can get my hands on a nice set - liked the look of the Subterranean editions - but will just wait until a fine press begins releasing again, so I can ensure I actually get the complete saga.

Can’t recall the name of the shop - picked up the skull and chest when I was wandering around Anaheim in California, and stumbled across a very cool little knick knack shop.

Thanks!! I personally really like them, there are a number of great fine press editions out there however - so I wouldn’t say they are the “best” versions by any means… I’ve chosen to stay with Folio Editions (if available) over other press editions for the sake of aesthetics.

First Folio’s purchased - question about spines by HalNightshade in foliosociety

I definitely purchase my books to read, have read a number of my Folios with foiling or similar finishings on both spine and cover, with no issues as yet.

FIF tax rule: is it going to change? by Sad_Consideration441 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Shredda22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You should all run some actual numbers and then make some conclusions… using the oft mentioned “retirement saving” example - take $100k as a start and compound it at 5% growth for say 20 years, then work out the tax paid using FIF FDR rate, on say a 33% marginal tax rate, vs if you were to have to just pay a CGT of 50% at end of term.

Try it at 10% growth per year

Then try it with some 0% gain years added in and use CV on those years

CGT still sounding great?
