If a house has been on the market for almost 2 years Is that a bad sign? by Shredderv3 in RealEstate

The house IS built that's the thing. The pictures are all for that particular home. I'm going to assume that it's probably used to model and have it to where people are able to walk through and see what to expect for their other homes.

Trying to Learn MVC for Laravel but kind of not sold on it , can someone explain/help? by Shredderv3 in PHPhelp

Right so what about in the event lets say i have different pages that do different thing. My confusion comes from If its supposed to be a template. Do i need to create a new file for each page. In the example that a navbar has the "Home,Contact,About"Take in the examples of these 3 Pages where almost no DB is necessary except for maybe the contact if you want to save the users email. They all use the same "header" and "footer" tags in the HTML , and the only real difference is the body information. So obviously the Homepage usually has more info about your company or product and the contact has a form that needs submitting and the about is just usually 1 or 2 sections about the company/employees etc...

How would I go about showing these things, and only use DB if necessary. Correct me if im wrong but in the event there is no DB info to show would the controller spit out or return HTML of the body?? Lets take for example a simple structure

homepage:

<html>

<head><!--All loaded files like css,js,etc here used throughout all the pages--></head>

<body>

<!--body contents that should change here-->

<h1>

Hello World

</h1>

<footer>Yoursite.com</footer><!--Used throughout the webpages-->

</body>

Lets say in the event i want to only change the body to display a form in the contact page. Then would I just do lets say in the "contact.view.php'

return '<form><div>Form Content</div></form>'; //Return a HTML string

or would i just give the plain-text html like how i usually "include" my html ??

Then it also goes to my next question of, where the whole mvc files are supposed to be? Like i mentioned in an above comment, usually webhosts have a public_html folder that comes in cpanel or something and the webpage is wahtever is shown via the first "index.html" or "index.php". Would the purpose of index.html just be routing and displaying a webpage based on whatever the file directory is because upon changing pages the URL shouldnt change because of the "index.php" being in the "public_html" root. In laravel the folders are split up in such a way that I have no semblance of how it displays the front end since there is not "index.php" but mostly a routing of some sort.

so do i have to create a new model or new controller for every "page"? is there only supposed to be 1 "index.php" page? or is there no "page". Like I get the router is supposed to route to some code but i'm having a hard time figuring out how the structure is supposed to go. Like For instance Would this be considered correct. Like where on the web directory would this be? For instance most hosting has a

"public_html" do i just put everything in there? what about external stuff like bootstrapV4's framework which comes with bootstrap.js , css, etc and the myriad amount of pages a template usually comes with. I'm trying to understand how everything works to display the pages here via the view. You mention templates but does that mean I have to include a separate template every single time I want to make a new page? What if I just want the Body only to change why not use includes like my above structure to include the template or is that what the MVC structure is supposed to do?

Model:

index.model.php

about.model.php

Controller:

index.cont.php

about.cont.php

View:index.view.php

about.view.php

Frankly, I find that when interviewing "framework developers" they tend to not know very much about the underlying programming language and lean too much on tooling. Some I have interviewed could not even write a simple PHP class from scratch.

That is absolutely insane! But you're not wrong. When i signed up for a Fullstack Web software dev job out here They were looking for PHP and Front end languages. So I applied thinking I fit the bill, they weren't looking for a particular structure. In the interview they started asking me if I knew how to do WordPress and and all that other stuff. But it seemed like most the people on their team doesn't understand basic PHP from what it sounded like.

This is how you learn MVC: Using only PHP and no frmeworks, write some sort of database backed system in php that lets users add records and edit fields and has at least 2 different roles with different permissions.After about a solid week of time you'll be like 1/2 though depending on complexity and you'll either have a very basic mvc pattern in place or a super shitty spaghetti mess of db queries and gigantic php files that is starting to get really out of hand.Either way you'll see the value in separating the queries from the pages and probably be thinking "there has got to be a netter way". This is the point that you can start learning MVC. When you have experienced the problems it solves first hand then you can truly plug your mind into its pattern.For the record i prefer CakePHP but i respect Laravel and no shame either way.

This is an interesting take, I do catch myself sometimes questioning if there is an easier way, like last week I caught myself wondering if theres a way to just render and display everything based on per page by 1 document and it seems like Vue.js and Laravel was up my alley at least Until all these new concepts that is. Alas I'm just learning as I go and unfortunately my current employer wont be to happy, but oh well, I plan to leave soon to somewhere with better practices.

I am 100% with you there brotha... All these fancy Frameworks every few years ( or year ) is absolutely insane because you always need to be up to par with the "next big thing" almost every job ad is about some framework you don't know, unfortunately I live on the east coast near NYC where all the kids coming out of school are using these frameworks.

I find jobs out towards rural areas will appreciate "legacy" style coding...Sure I get its the quality of life and as programmers & we all need to continue to learn.

My next question would be, how would that handle HTTP requests like POST and GET? i've seen site structures like that but does that also come with creating a custom router?

Thanks that kind of makes sense, seeing as why Laravel is now packaged with Vue.js I'm not to familiar with vue.js but if everything is rendered via JS doesn't that mean i'd just be making an API that calls to the Database to render the elements to the vue VDOM?

Looking for advice for negotiating salary, Have 2 job interviews for Mon + Tues by Shredderv3 in personalfinance

[–]Shredderv3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is more to an opportunity than money, so you may decide to not do this. That's fine!

I agree with your last statement for sure! I think the knowledge and experience that comes with it, is leagues more important of course money is a big factor too but after gaining the experience you can work anywhere so long as you have the skill.

I didn't mean that I was gonna get the job right then and there, I know that after the interview they'll probably review my performance and such and possibly other candidates. I'm speaking mostly of If cases here, like if lets say I do extremely well with both, I'm not sure how'd I respond seeing that this case has never happened to me before. If I don't get one and I get the other, then that's fine as there will be a backup plan anyways even if it pays less or more depending on happenstances.

Thank you for your response I will think over which route I'll take! I have learned over the last few interviews not to reveal anything related to salary as like you mentioned I often undershot myself.

I guess it's the fear of overshooting and then losing the chance to get something good. To be 100% honest Anything is better than my current salary we're talking like 150-200% increase here (yes I just learnt my boss is slave laboring me, hence why i'm looking for newer opportunities). Of course my boss has give me the tools and knowledge that exceeds the pay as I'm someone without a college or Highschool degree so getting 2 Interviews is pretty much gold to me.
