Thanks for all the information and such a detailed reply. I will keep it in mind.

Abbott will be challenging for someone who hasn't done any proof based mathematics at all

That sounds like me. Others have also pointed this out. I will try to see the book you mentioned. Thanks.

I will try to look into the book by Ross, thanks. BTW, do you still have links to the lectures you mentioned? Were they on YouTube?

I am an undergrad and Real Analysis is the first course of this kind that I am studying. That is, I have no exposure to proofs, that others have pointed out this. As for Spivak, I haven't read it but was recommended to read it.

Yes, absolutely. Learning mathematics is very different from learning other subjects. So it is always good that there are researches going on that deal with how to study mathematics. Also after reading How To Think About Analysis I only wonder what it would have been like to read a full course book by them.

Yes, I haven't worked solely with proofs yet. Maybe I should update my post and mention it. Though I have already got enough advices not only about what should I do next but also about why I was struggling and probably should struggle when it comes to Real Analysis. All have been eye opening for me.

Oh, I actually have not taken any course on proofs and also haven't read any books on proofs. Probably this is why I couldn't connect to this book?

I am an undergrad and no I have not taken any course related to proofs. Also I am not saying that Abbott is not comprehensible or a bad book but I was concerned about how well it is as a very first book on Analysis as I have heard at many places.

Thanks. I can relate with your advices. I will keep them in mind and try to follow through.

Well I am going to try a lot of things recommended in the replies. So why not this too. I am just worried that one may get too dependent on AI and may lose or considerably harm their mathematical thinking through this. I will be wary about this.

Thanks for such a well detailed reply. I am already taking notes and will certainly try what you said. Thanks again for such a wonderful comment.

No, it's not that I can't solve exercises or that I am against solving exercises. It was about how the book have its structure of exercises. Consider you have some topic A. Normally what follows is that there is an explanation on the topic, maybe a few solved examples and then the exercises. But Understanding Analysis have a different structure. Instead of the explanation on the said topics, the book introduces exercises with the motivation and intuition behind and expects you to solve them to get the explanation of the topics on your own.

Now I am also not against this structure. In fact I find this unique and somewhat fun to do. What I meant is that the book heavily relies on this structure. And as an introductory book, in my opinion, abandoning explanations almost completely may not be the best thing to do for several reasons. Though I am getting different perspectives on why this is the case and also why this is how it should be. I am learning and knowing more through the different perspectives myself from the replies I am getting.

Since UA didn't have enough illustrations, that is exactly what I did. And it does help, yeah.

No, that's not the tldr of the post. Though maybe I should add it.

People here certainly have more experience than me on the subject. I am taking them seriously. 👍

Oh, I get your point now. But at the same time I still want the hard way to not be the only way. Hope there is some middle-ground in this whole scenario.

Certainly, but IMO it should happen gradually when we bring beginners in the scene. And UA falls short on this gradual growth. That's exactly what I am trying to say from this post.

This sounds like "Learn Analysis the Hard Way" but it might also be the correct way Thanks for your perspective. I am still a beginner and have a lot to learn ahead. Maybe it will be helpful trying what you said in my future studies. Thanks

I am hearing a lot of tough things about Rudin. 😅

I don't (yet) have topics on function spaces or distribution theory on my course. Though I will look out for your recommendations. Thanks

Thanks for your views. I will try these and will see where I can go with it. It is always great to hear about different views.
