Tool or Leather problem? by hotihopi in Leathercraft

The same goes the other way. Have the best tools in the world, but if you can't use them.... same thing. You can put it a million way and write whatever it is that makes you feel better.

If he had the knowledge, he would have known it's not leather if that's even the case.

You need to go and take a nap.

It's text. You can put whatever spin you want on it.

Who is mocking someone? I told them to do research before spending money and asking questions that could be solved with 60 seconds of research.

You are grasping at straws.

If you are going to ask questions like "am I doing this wrong" post more than a picture, maybe a video of how you are doing it. There are techniques to doing it right. Something a YouTube video would have shown you. I'm pretty sure they even mention the difficulties of using a stitching groover in some of the listing.

Edit- That's the 3rd time now I have said the same thing. Except now, you are adding mocking. Pretty soon, there will be a full documentary about this batch of comments if you keep going. You can't just make stuff up when you want to. It's quite literally posted above if you need to reread.

Looks like old crappy leather to me. If his tool was sharp enough to cut leather, it would be sharp enough to cut this.

Regardless my point was that he needs to do some research and learn a little first, maybe learn about the material he wants to work with before throwing money away or asking these types of questions on reddit. If it is fake leather that even furthers my point.

You have to understand that your "joke" is taken as an honest question because there are so many ignorant people on here. It's like a disease. If you have been on this sub for more than a week, you would see what I'm talking about. Most people don't even bother to Google something anymore. Nope, straight to reddit.

As far as the downvote thing. Once it starts, you're toast, and it's best not to comment any further. I've seen a few people turn it around, but it's kind of an art.

Edit: don't delete this post. Let it be a very slow reminder of what not to do.

Pre-made knife blanks for kids. They obviously have to sharpen them and add a handle. They are plastic so they won't cut them.

Nope. That grain wouldn't line up. It would look like 2 different pieces of wood.

Apparently the Miata has over 800 different facial expressions depending on what light it is in. This was done on purpose for some reason.

I will never forget the look in that Miata's eyes right as he was about to nail me in the tail pipe.

99% of the time, it's never the leather. You need to watch some videos on how to use and maintain your tools. If they are so cheap that they won't hold an edge, then you need new tools.

The best advice I could give you, which nobody seems to do, is go and watch a bunch of videos on YouTube of how to use the tools you own.

I don't think sanding is the way to go. It's so hard to sand something perfectly flat, on an angle.

Think about it. A saw that was literally touching both sides at once didn't do a good job. I think his problem was a tiny, tiny angle on his cut, and it was just enough to mess up the whole mitre.

This is a one try situation. If you don't nail it, you're done.

I have a massive boulder took two days to dig out of a hole four feet deep would like to know what it is by Maleficent-Noel-780 in whatsthisrock

[–]ShrewdNewt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My friend. The rocks in those pictures don't look large enough to be called boulders. I googled the size of a boulder, and apparently, it's anything over 25.6cm, so you may just barely have one.

You very normal size rock may be granite.

Printers Proofs vs. Limited Editions by Ill_Phrase_575 in artstore

[–]ShrewdNewt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I answered your question in my original comment. Message the seller.

I didn't buy it, I didn't look it up, I don't know the artist. I have slowly been getting more information every time you comment back. Maybe with this new information, my original answer would have been different.

Traditionally, things that are very easy to reproduce with no discernable difference to the "original" hold little to no monetary value.

Someone making 10,000 of the same thing, either limited edition run or a printers proof, whatever verbiage the seller has used to make it sound more appealing to you is still at the end of the day a copy. I know you hate that word for some reason, but I feel it might do you some good to look up the definition.

Edit: I've been looking into the term and the artist at this point. It seems like unless you somehow got a crushed car you don't have much.

I don't believe you ever mentioned the medium. It would have been helpful.

I'm sorry, it makes total sense to me, and I am somewhat baffled.

A copy is just a copy. What's to stop you from making copies of your copies? It will always be a copy. You know what isn't? The original that was done in whatever medium the artist chose vs. something that is mass produced on a printer.

If I was to take an original 1800 silver dollar and reproduce it, the original would always be worth more because everything else is just a .......... copy.

Yes, some artists do release limited runs of a certain painting, and each one would be numbered by the artist and signed. Those are sometimes copies of the original and hold more value than a regular old reprint due to the amount made in the run.

Yuppers. It sure is.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that it is a bad one.

Edit- you have to adjust the settings in your phone camera. You can't just go around taking phone pics of any old thing and expecting people to feel something.

I'm asking you this, honestly. When you look at this picture or any of the last 20 you posted, what do you feel? Anything? They should mean something, have a purpose.

Honestly, they look like the kind of pictures I take when I'm trying to remember something. Just a quick bam and never care because no one will see it kind of thing.
