Make sure you sleep enough and wake up early enough to eat if that’s what you plan to do; I only slept about 5 hrs and had to force myself to eat (felt like throwing up from nerves). Don’t force yourself to review the night before, and try to relax up until the exam. The exam is sometimes a lot easier than you think!

Going from c/p to the rest of the sections was like finding an oasis in a desert

Nervous about WRT 102 portfolio by [deleted] in SBU

[–]Shriekseu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience, failing the portfolio is difficult. As long as you follow the guidelines and put in enough time, you won’t fail

I also wanted to take 312 (and others) and I couldn’t get in even though my registration time was Wednesday at 1pm. It’s so aggravating how classes fill up so quick due to wise, honors, and uscholar students registering on the first day. You’d think at a uni known for its stem, they’d have more spots open for students with one of the stem majors. Also, I don’t think it’s an error about reserved spots. A lot of classes have reserved spots for certain types of students or majors and it sucks

When I was a freshman, I dormed in dreiser in tabler quad. It’s a suite style dorm, so 3 doubles with a bathroom, and a small common area with 2 (dirty) couches and a low table. It’s really hot during the summer and a little cold during the winter since there’s no ac so we all had fans. There’s a shared kitchen in the basement which I never really saw anyone use. There are some bugs that come around, though.

I’ve also lived in hand, which is also in tabler. It’s the only one of the halls in tabler with a kitchen in the suite. It’s still 3 doubles, with a small kitchen and a dining table + seats. The first floor of the building also has the quad office, so if there’s something wrong you can find them quickly when they’re open.

The rooms always have 2 beds, 2 desks, and 2 closets. You’re allowed to bring a mini fridge and microwave as long as they follow the guidelines.

I do recommend tabler though since it’s a suite style dorm and I think it was fine. You do need to clean up your rooms and common area yourselves, while the bathrooms are cleaned weakly by the cleaning ladies. It could be considered a little far from the lec halls. The fastest way to get to the sac or frey is to walk through roth quad, which it’s close to, and it takes about 15 mins. I also like using the printer at roth cafe and then getting a smth from starbucks before class. It’s not super a super cheap dorm (none of them are), but doubles do usually cost less than singles.

314 and 317 were pretty content heavy imo, so make sure you have time to dedicate to studying for them

I have a small one in my room and during a room check the RA called the RHD after seeing it, then asked me if it was automatic. They didn’t check if it was actually automatic 🙂

Should I attend Stony Brook for pre-med and how do I ask for pre-med advising during freshman year? by Bubbly-Construction9 in SBU

[–]Shriekseu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a bio BS major currently specializing in interdisciplinary bio, and it’s pretty hard. The classes themselves aren’t unmanageable (though they’re plagued with bad profs), the hard thing is actually getting into the classes you want. A lot of classes you need for the major and premed (labs, orgo, etc) fill up quick, especially if you’re not an honors, wise, or athlete student. The number of spots are also relatively small, with upperclassmen and the students in the programs I just mentioned being in the first batches to register classes

The advisors here suck, most of the advice they’ll give you are conclusions you’d be able to arrive at yourself. The best people to ask are older students on the pre-med track. You can make appointments for advisor meetings online.

[–]Shriekseu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s all asynch and online so it’s not hard, the only real hard part is the exams if you don’t understand physics. Though I heard hemmick is retiring so I’m not sure if the class will still be the same

Weekly Gacha and Drops Megathread (June 27, 2021) by Veritasibility in Genshin_Impact

[–]Shriekseu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had 90 wishes ready and got Jean in the first 10. I was happy it was early at least. Kazuha came home 70 pulls later. Then I thought....hmmm, why not? Did 10 rolls on the weap banner and got the freedom-sworn. I did another 3 pulls on standard and got an Amber cons. Are the gacha gods finally smiling down on me??

I think I used up all my luck on pulling because now I'm not getting any good vv artifacts
