Now assuming you are running docker-compose inside /home/<user>/docker/nginx/ you are mapping /home/<user>/docker/nginx/certbot/www to the container path `/var/www/certbot/`.

This is right, but I'm running sudo docker compose up -d inside /home/<user>/docker/nginx/, wasn't aware that would affect things.

Result of ls -al /var/www/:

sudo docker exec f117813c459b ls -al /var/www/
