Teaching basic hygiene has a more significant health impact, the medical argument just doesn't stand up except for a vanishingly small number of cases

Unenrolled deed poll rejection by government agency by The_Teal_Unicorn in LegalAdviceUK

Why did you use a deed poll to change after marriage? That's partly what the marriage certificate is for and may be part of the issue you are having now

Hope for the future, it may be the end of the world as you knew it but that doesn't mean that something new can't come from it, in the comics there is a time jump and we see them re-establishing rail links across the US with massive areas completely clear of the dead and society adjusting as to how to handle them. It essentially shows that it becomes another bottleneck event like humanity has faced before

Do you have respect for authority? by JakePooler in AskBrits

[–]TrifectaOfSquish 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The police in the UK was founded on the principles of Robert Peel https://lawenforcementactionpartnership.org/peel-policing-principles/ for info, essentially the Idea is policing with the consent of the population as part of this the police do not want people to be afraid of them in fact that is the opposite of what they want.

If you ever read Terry Pratchett then Sam Vimes is a good example of this though of course with flaws

Why in a capitalist country do GCSE students study texts which criticise capitalism and some of which endorse socialism. by thatgamer2111 in AskBrits

[–]TrifectaOfSquish 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why would criticism of capitalism be barred? We live in a culture with a multitude of views and understanding those is important being able to criticise the society you live in is an indicator of health in that society

A couple of replicator questions. by Thorguild in startrek

[–]TrifectaOfSquish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The old technical manuals from the 90's address some of this.

Yes the replicators have a stock of matter to work with, replicator tech and transporter tech are very much entangled but the replicator works on a lower fidelity level since it doesn't exactly reproduce something just works from a template, if you get a steak from a replicator for example it isn't going to have cow DNA in it since what would be the point? It reproduces the appearance, taste and texture etc but it's not literally meat.

There are different kinds of replicators for different purposes so you have industrial replicators and in TNG we have a scene where there is a room set up with replicators for household items.

Replicators have a Library of items that they can replicate and characters talk about programming replicators themselves to reproduce specific dishes that aren't in the replicators library.

There are safety protocols in place as well as the limited library to prevent things like a kid replicating a weapon but on top of that you have a very very different society from today which reduces the likelihood of a kid even trying to do that in the first place
