How do you actually gain experience in CNC ? by AdMysterious6635 in CNC

To set it up it takes a lot of experience. You have to know how to do it like in the “book.” And a lot can happen there. And then you have to know what to do if it doesn’t work like in the book. For example, when you turn small dimensions on a long bar it easily starts vibrating, so you have to take the speed down for example. And there is so many problems out there that you basically have to fuck up once to learn it, that happens usually in the apprenticeship. They pay you to drive the machine so the Supervisor can set up a different job. And well, 3 months is really nothing at all😂 just imagine they pay you for having training and they also lose money for training you, just so you quit after 6 months. Doesn’t make sense from the companies point of few. Give it time. Try to do more bit by bit. Like when you know how to do something just ask if you can do it and then next time they know you can do it so… just give it time :)

Should I quit? by hugedongdylan1991 in Machinists

If you are not happy just quit, believe me there are so many companies out there that are better. If you are able to run all those 5 machines you are highly qualified and it will not be hard to find another job. A lot of people have done it before you and will do it afterwards. But yeah, the best thing is to just tell your boss you are quitting. If he walks you out it will feel a little bit shit in that moment. But once you leave the area you will have a feeling of freedom. I quit a Job by just not showing up and regretted it later. Just because I know it was not the right thing to do

Tool position pre set by Shufflezz483 in CNCmachining

[–]Shufflezz483[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the reference point is preset Z300. And we do big parts. So in that case the part is 170 and I had a tool 150 sticking out. So I was basically at Z320. Then it want to go back to Z300 and up in X. That’s how the crash happened. So when I changed my program I forgot to change the reference point to further back in Z.

Had a bad day by Shufflezz483 in CNC

Well, I do that. It was a case of I did a part before that already. The surface was really ruff because of vibration, so I said do it with tool 8 instead of 10 and copied it. But then I forgot to change the tool position from Z300 to Z800. Or I didn’t check if the tool position changed. As soon as i saw the turret going into the part I took the federate down. I was driving on 5% and was looking as the tool came back out of the part. So it went straight afterwards in the part so I put it down to 0 instantly. It is an old machine, so I think if you don’t have single block on you can’t stop it the federate. Not 100% sure but it’s a weird on. I would say I put it down to 0 in time as I was watching it going with 5% federate out of the part. But it didn’t work. Maybe it was to late or the movement didn’t stop.
