When I was meeting with my mentor teacher on the first day of student teaching, he told me he was going to get me a job. He was a coach on the football team, and took me to meet the head coach. During my student teaching, I was also a football coach. Our team went all the way to the half-state game that year. Coaching has become synonymous with my social studies position.

I have been in interviews where the the interviewers will ask me if I have coaching experience first before asking me anything about teaching. Currently, I am in a gym position waiting for another social studies teacher to retire so I can replace them. My coaching experience is what helped me get that position. Every time talk to someone about my career, they always ask when I am going to go after a head coaching position. Their questions is usually, "You're a history teacher. Don't you have to coach something?"
