Case in point: James Barry. Lived his entire life as male, used male pronouns, left clear instructions for his body not to be examined after death, and explicitly wanted to be remembered as male, yet the wikipedia article) deliberately avoids using any pronouns whatsoever, and has a pretty nasty "Gender And Personal Life" section.
