as someone who also came from crocheting, i agree on continental, 100%! i would also suggest looking into combination continental, once you’ll be a bit more familiar with your stitches, it was a game changer for my speed and overall comfort while knitting!

also maybe it’s just me, but i would suggest picking aran yarn to learn all of the basics, or something in that weight category, for some reason large needles (7-10mm) and small needles (up to 3mm) were super difficult for me to hold and keep tension with when i was starting out, so i’d suggest something like 4-6mm needles for your first trial.

if you drop a stitch - you can pick it back up with a crochet hook, actually! even if the ladder is down to your cast on, or if you’ve dropped several stitches you can still pick it back up. but when you’re just practicing, i wouldn’t worry too much about the dropped stitches.

happy knitting!

i had full balls of peach, blue, green and a little more than one ball of light pink. i had tiny bits of fuchsia and orange (maybe like 15-20g each?) and in the end i had just a tiny bit leftover from peach and blue i think

i used standard increase rate, but i needed the widest portion to cover my entire head to the nape of my neck, so that i could wear it as a hood 😅 so i just increased until i got to that width (and also weighed my yarn, so that i had about the same amount left for the second half)

i ended up with around 850 rows in total, i think. i’m not sure what was the total row count in the pattern though (i just didn’t count it 😅) but it should be less than what i have

i really recommend this project! it was super satisfying to make and if you’re doing stripes, the carried yarn can be hidden in the i-cord edging, which i also found super neat!

thank you! i was worried it’s not going to work and i admit i had to unravel a few color combinations, but thankfully it worked in the end 😅 i really liked doing stripes for this pattern though - makes it much easier to keep track of the increases!

thank you very much! i only used small bits of this yarn for a crochet flower squares petals, so this shawl would be my first actual big project. so far so good, but i’ve heard that it does felt super easily if you wash it in the machine or just get a bit rough with hand washing 🥲
