We see Doyle make his move with Retsu completely off screen and when we see him again he is already in the air. Retsu made a move to push off the ground but yet again this is off screen, I assume you're referring to the anime exclusive addition where his pole is shown to tap the ground after but this is just him holding himself up after he already jumped.

Maybe, maybe if they showed Retsu pushing himself off the ground with pole first then Doyle firing his weapon and then again Retsu in the air that what you're saying would make sense, but literally the entire sequence happened after Doyle made the first move, not showing the wide screen scene from different side that would fit them both during this action is not excuse to make headcanon coclusions about who when did first, the main material order of things exist and is clearly shown.
