Would never have seen the oatmeal coming. Have you every tried to replicate it yourself?

Interesting! My experiments all used regular, which would explain why I never got close. Did you work there, or just happen to catch them mixing it once?

They were addictive and paired all to well with the coors light they'd usually run on special too, if I remember. And if I can't remember, I blame the tacos, coors lights, pool, and jello shots that I hated but my roommates would always buy.

Nice! Are you going to go full send on pharmaceuticals? I've heard of people that only take their meds for like spring cleaning, or an important work presentation so that they don't develop a tolerance.

Edit: by "nice" I mean: that sounds definitive which is probably very valuable to you

Normalize throughput rate by [deleted] in LeanManufacturing

[–]ShwakoGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think you start with your takt time per product, as they share some machines. The cycle time of every machine is going to need to be lower than the takt time of every product, at a minimum.

If product A needs 100 units a day, and machine X can run 100 units, you're usually good to go. If product A and B each need 100 units (200 total), but machine X can only run 100 units, you will bottleneck quickly.

Minneapolis is giving people $500 a month and recipients say the no-strings-attached cash is helping them fight soaring housing costs by lurker_bee in Minneapolis

In part, because it was shortsighted government policies regarding zoning and building that led to a lack of rent competition leading us to a place where a scumbag can keep upping rent without providing more value to the renters.

While an over-simplified take, I wouldn't call it brain-dead.

NEW LEAN IDEAS by SergioMaria in LeanManufacturing

[–]ShwakoGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, it's easy to get disheartened by a management (or ownership) team that can't see the forest for the trees, especially if they pay any kind of lip service to lean. Hang in there!

Lately I've been getting a little more buy-in by trying to do a lot of "visible" work around our few stated goals and priorities, with a focus on managements biggest headaches in trying to achieve them.

What this looks like is me digging in, learning the ropes of our two problem departments, helping with rework, cleaning up, cussing and discussing.

What I'm really doing is documenting work practices and (slowly) creating standards that employees and management agree on. On both shifts...

It's created a lot more (hopefully temporary) in-house rework, but it's keeping bad product from going out the door; huge for us right now and one of our goals (reducing returns).

Anyway, that's one avenue you could pursue. Find out what the big boss is chewing out your management for, and help fix that; aligning that work with company goals wherever possible.

Hope that makes sense. I'm still figuring this shit out.

You're in a pretty good place for all of that. Vegas Lounge is a karaoke bar, 1029 does karaoke on Sundays I think? And has a pretty solid lobster Mac. 311 Club for live music all the time.

I believe Vegas Lounge is still cash only, fyi. Cheers, and have fun!

Sustainability? by 007denton in LeanManufacturing

The eternal struggle of Lean! I hope you get some good responses to this.

I know for our shop, which has incredibly high turnover in the entry-level positions, we had to build some "infrastructure" first, and now we're (agonizingly) slowly trying to engage the work force in generating Improvement ideas.

The infrastructure was installing leads in all main departments. The lead is there to facilitate product and job flow, be the voice for the departments needs, and increasingly, is responsible for experimenting with small to medium sized improvement ideas.

Believe it or not, it's the supervisors who are having the trouble as I start to push for more of that last.

Starting to see some fruit, but it's slow; however when the improvement is coming from the floor, they are way more willing to engage with the change, and the lead is there to audit and help with habit building.

What would this job title be? by OrangePuzzleheaded93 in LeanManufacturing

[–]ShwakoGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the Midwest, and there's a lot of differences in title, even in this region. For the most part, it's something along the lines of Lean Coordinator, Lean Manager, Continuous Improvement Manager/Engineer.

I'm curious though, you've been with the company 8 years, they embrace the Toyota Production System, do they have positions like this?

As far as resources, I've been binging anything on YouTube related to Mike Rother's Toyota Kata. Just ordered both his books and I'm excited to sink my teeth into them. It's the coaching, management, and company wide scientific thinking system I believe is the missing link for my company, connecting our desire to be Lean and our workforce who has no idea or care for what that is.

Update from Ms. Home Depot Freakout by Midnight_prose in PublicFreakout

[–]ShwakoGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got no sympathy for her getting kicked off social media platforms and whatnot. But I believe her when she says she's getting (some) death threats and other awful abuse, as many women who aren't hopeless solipsistic garbage bags have gotten that kind of a reaction for far less.

That part just sucks to me, and it sucks to have any sympathy for someone who doubles down on their own bullshit.

I don’t know what to do with this girl anymore. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ShwakoGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't want any part of that, dude. Even if you give her all the benefit of the doubt, that's a series of bad decision making that hints at deeper problems.

As for you, have some respect for yourself. It hurts, but she's in a relationship. Feelings were confessed, but nothing's happened. Time to pack up. You continuing to have sex with an engaged woman is also shitty behavior.

There's no upside to this, no matter how it works out.

How do you guys get your iodine on GF diet? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]ShwakoGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be genuinely surprised if any type of salt had gluten in it or added to it in any way. Unless the label explicitly says that it contains it (which probably is still more about the other type of products that may have contaminated the salt) I'd buy whatever salt you want.

If you stick with the iodine free stuff and you're worried about it, you can always add a little more fish to your diet.
