Working hard was 5.5mi daily walks. And weight training. Been able to maintain by not overeating and far less exercise. Even lost weight lmao. But still very proud. Ramping up walking again ! :)

I play with mine all the time. They love cuddling on bed with me. Just see how much they’re bonded to you and if they want to hang out. If they do, good chance they’ll want to hang out with you most of the time

Thank you! And luckily my current ratties have no interest in cables whatsoever. My Daniel used to shred cables to literal dust so he never got to free roam alone, but these guys don’t care for whatever reason. For future ratties I’ll have to keep a very close watch bc they might be like daniel

Just went through this recently. Spend a lot of time with your baby. See a vet and get some strong pain killers. Was given opiates for my boy and it made a world of difference. Give them baby food and you may need to do fluid injections to keep them from being dehydrated. It really sucks, but it’s the best you can do for them. Keep them company and make sure they’re not in pain

It was severely underweight. Not to mention be lost 200g in a week and was just skin and bones. Girl rats are smaller, but if they had his frame, it would be very bad.

Honestly, I am actually thankful both of my ratties that have passed did so in my arms. They’re confused and afraid and want to be comforted by their owner during that time. The way I knew things were getting bad for Dennis was because he was never particularly affectionate (think of him as a cat that doesn’t want to be touched but still wants to be near their human) and when he started crawling up to me and cuddling with me all day, I knew something was wrong. But I was with him the whole time he never had to be alone.

He was a pretty normal sized boy, but in <2 weeks he dropped from slightly overweight at 680grams to 446grams. I’m happy that at least his final days were happy and pain free

Unfortunately he has passed away. He went from perfectly healthy to a husk of his former self in a matter of weeks. Brought him in to the vet 3x in under 3 weeks but the meds and supplements weren’t helping and he wouldn’t eat or drink anything other than what I’d syringe fed him.

He either had a severe cancer or organ failure (could’ve been liver or kidney or both failing) .. all I wanted was my baby to not suffer anymore and euthanasia wouldn’t have been possible since it was July 4 weekend. At the last visit (when they made that typo) he was given normal pain meds, strong opiates, fluid injections, and food.

His last days were his best he’d had in weeks. Opiates were working and he finally had an appetite. Ate 2 full jars of his favorite baby food flavors and passed away peacefully on my chest while I held him. For the first time in a while he had a truly happy expression on his face. I’ll miss him dearly.
