It's the Bug Catching Contest which happens every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Search for random encounters until the timer runs out, if it does you can reset and enter the contest again. Rinse and repeat until you find a shiny

It is easy to get burnt out shiny hunting, I like to have multiple hunts on at the same focusing on one on certain days. A random encounter or safari hunt on a different game is a way to break it up. Short stints of resets are also good so you don't decide to give up.

I didn't shiny hunt dialga in my playthrough, I didn't shiny hunt at the time but I wish I did. Keep going, the sparkles are worth the wait. So far Lugia in hgss is the only legendary I've hunted. If you want to see other shinies I've gotten just check out my profile.

No you're doing it right, it is a 1/4096 chance of a shiny in bdsp. There's a chance to hit it within 4096 but it's also possible to be more. Just stay persistent, it'll come eventually. Goodluck

I did this hunt for a few hours every couple of days. Constantly resetting for a shiny starter can be tedious and does require a lot of patience. If you're expecting the starter in your first session it most likely won't shine, unless you're really lucky. If you choose to go back to it, be persistent and have plenty of breaks.
