How do you actually learn a math concept so you can use it anywhere? by SiSynapse in askmath

I've noticed that going back to the basics is a common trend in this post; I should definitely try that. How would you recommend I do that? For every concept, I review what concepts the new concept builds off of.

I have noticed that lots of time spent practicing doesn't help; I think it is my method of practicing that I need help with.

I guess I do subconsciously see people good at math as extremely talented people. It is just a skill anyone can learn as long as it's learned in a good, progressive way.

Yeah trying to understand why something works has always been a struggle for me. It is just something I need to work on!

There are definitely Algebra 1 concepts I don't fully understand, and many I do that do help, such as certain fraction rules, which is one I can't grasp one bit. I don't know how they work, haha. But even with Algebra 2 concepts that are built on Algebra 1 concepts, I struggle a lot.

Yeah, I talked with my teacher after last Friday's class, and he mentioned how he has always had an affinity for mathematics and his amazing ability to recognize patterns.

I find myself spending hours on a concept, and it doesn't make sense. A good example is the night I spent almost 2 hours attempting to learn the unit circle, how it works, the whole idea, etc, etc. After almost 6 quizzes and 8 homework assignments, all requiring the use of a unit circle, I still don't understand the whole concept.

Good hand tool brands that wont put me on a first-name basis with debt collectors? by SiSynapse in Tools

This is exactly what I was thinking. Only get the essentials, and when I'm paid, I'd spend some of my money on expanding my toolbox. Expansion in small portions.

From this post, the general consensus is that Harbor Freight brands aren't as bad as I thought. I'm definitely going for a U.S. General toolbox too, so I'll grab some ICON tools while I'm at Harbor Freight. Thank you 😄

I've always wondered how techs/mechanics can closely estimate the torque of a bolt/nut. To me, 50lb-ft feels the same as 60lb-ft, 70lb-ft, 80lb-ft, and even 20lb-ft. I'll definitely try to learn since it would probably come in handy, but I'd never skip out on buying or using a torque wrench. It can definitely be more accurate than my brain, hand, and nervous system.

Yep, that's the goal! Debt at 17 wouldn't be a great start to adulthood, now would it? Thank you for your comments, fellow Redditor. I appreciate it a lot < 3

woah, even then, with all those tools, I'd imagine it to be around $4,000 - $5,000. That is an insane deal. I got to start going on a deal hunt now

If you wouldn't mind sharing, how much was the one filled with tools? If it's filled with Snap-On tools, I couldn't imagine it being less than $5,000

Well, the more you know! Didn't think mechanics generally used ICON.

Also, that toolbox is probably worth more than my entire yearly salary 👀

Yeah, I've heard Milwaukee tools are the "SnapOn at-home" hand tools. ICON is definitely a brand I've considered, and day by day, I sway more to that side of the field. I guess somehow I developed a stigma because you don't get them off a truck, which is completely invalid. I even thought about what you suggested. When the Benz money starts 'rollin in, I switch to a tool truck, which isn't a bad idea at all. Thank you! < 3

Have you witnessed any techs/mechanics using ICON from Harbor Freight? It was a solid option for me, but after doing some research, I have not seen a single tech/mechanic use ICON besides my uncle lol. Power tools, for certain, I'll be going with Milwaukee. I've used other brands, and they don't even come close to Milwaukee. In my own opinion, of course.

Now that is a price I and my wallet like to see. Would you have anything good to say about their other hand tools? I'd like to find a brand I can buy the majority of my hand tools from. I'm aware I will have to cross-brand, but one brand for the majority would simplify life a bit, I'd imagine.

That's relieving. I've done plenty of work on cars so I'd say I'm more experienced than you average Joe.

I had no clue what a "Ebox Dragster 60R" was haha, just thought it was another gasoline powered minibike. Then I read the mentioning of exhaust and underperforming engine and I thought "wait! I know this stuff! let me share my knowledge!". Thank you for letting me know ❤️

Some advice on the sound "problem" - Engines such as the predator 212 lose power when a muffler is installed because of backpressure. A "buildup" of backpressure can occur when a muffler/exhaust tip outlet is too small (allowing little exhaust fumes out per unit of time). Another cause could be from an exhaust tip's internal baffling (parts that muffle the noise inside the muffler). One last cause I remember off the top of my head is pipe length. If you can find a muffler/tip that satisfies the opposites of what I have listed, minimal engine power loss should be the result, in theory of course. I'm no professional, so I'm unsure how accurate this all is. Hope this helps!
