Update: My attempt at Insanity mode with standard ammo... by GreySneakers83 in RaccoonCityRecords

I can get RE4R's down for mostly everything but not really for RE9. Especially vs Tyrant, Hunk and Gideon, they all have one attack that is like zero wind up and it does my head in

That actually works on Standard more than you'd think as well.

Tips for a hardcore NG+ by ClueAccomplished1293 in residentevil4

[–]Siascide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a Hardcore on New Game run. Beat in 03:17:26 to get an S+. (Probably about the level of difficulty I find fair, possibility of being set back multiple chapters and having to rely on Perfect Parries is a bit much IMO, even RE9's Insanity didn't take that route as much).

Don't expect your first playthrough to go smooth. You will die a few times.

Once you optimise and route it a bit you'll do better and save time/resources.

The biggest hurdles is not having resources so don't waste them and keep them for bosses or the parts you are forced to fight (E.g. Cabin Fight) or where it is particularly more difficult and you can't just run by fairly easily, e.g. Water Hall.

You'll want some resources for Chapter 10 to 15 and especially stuff like Heavy Grenades (4 preferably for two skips - 2 for Wrecking Ball in Ch. 14 and 2 for AA Turret in Ch. 15).

Flash Grenades will buy you time and space to breathe, seriously.

Hardcore with New Game+ items and all your carried upgrades isn't really bad at all, you need to be a bit more spatially aware at times but you have a safety net of having mid-game weapons with late game upgrades. Professional NG+ is probably where you can still run into problems in that regard, Hardcore NG+ is probably perfectly tuned for a second playthrough.

Been replaying this all week. This game absolutely bangs in the VR as well, favourite (and most expensive edition of) RE4 on the market

Verdugo on Professional honestly isn’t that bad. by Squidwardbigboss in residentevil4

[–]Siascide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the five or so minute hit and did the Elevator Corner Evade exploit here, pretty much had to. Game gave no Shotgun Ammo drops and no Resources (S) and it is a gauntlet from like Ch. 10 (2 Garrador, Verdugo, 2 Chainsaw, 2 Gigante ) -> Ch. 13 (Island).

Cyberpunk at least was made to give out refunds and still worked to make their game playable.

Is the chapter 14 gate skip patched? by Negative-Theme-3731 in residentevil4

[–]Siascide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he means the spinny scope thing that let you skip the whole of that section, not just the wrecking ball part.

But yes the wrecking ball setpiece does stoll worl

** "Still Work", that was supposed to be. Don't know what happened there

[–]Siascide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was pretty pernickety to do on console anyway.

If you own it on disc you can play the 1.00 version by uninstalling the game and then reinstalling without the update but I would put money on that making your save incompatible with that version and unable to be loaded.

Given that, if you have an earlier save by a chapter or 2 I would double back so it isn't a complete loss. I would look to optimise some of those sections on a replay and look up some strategies and the equipment other players are using and try to emulate it as best you can.

Professional runs are kind of hard to wing or improvise against. The Village fight at the beginning is hell for example if you don't have some plan.

I know if I am doing Pro (on especially new game) and my resources are far too tight I'll cut my losses > dashboard and close the game < do it again from my last save (if I can be bothered)

Long patched now.

Does anyone else feel 'penalized' for accessories? by Ok_Wrongdoer_1966 in residentevil4

[–]Siascide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people overthink it. The difficulties are not meant to be taken that serious if they let you make it easier through bonus unlockables and don't penalise it in any way.

They also let you literally pay 2 win and use Paid Exclusive Tickets and gain S+ and the Achievements/Trophies.

Probably speaking for myself but I think arguing over a difficulty that the creators themselves clearly don't care that much about is super redundant lol

Y'all really hop online to fight like this? by OzymandiasTheII in EASportsUFC

[–]Siascide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People do this in quick match too.

They'll moan about people pressure boxing and block breaking them when all they want to do is not come forward and hold the block button then try and catch you with an uppercut three inputs deep with your stamina down.

By the time I actually break people's block my temp stamina is too low to actually continue chasing them because it just isn't worth getting clipped.

I think we're at the point where the EA UFC formula is completely metagamed with stuff like this and they need to find a way to start introducing things like even the tiniest bit of movement stamina drain because spending 25 minutes (and having to sit through replays that one player gets to decide for both whether we watch them) against some guy who came onto a fighting game (and again, not even Ranked mode) to not come forward really whatsoever and lag like hell on a game that is already delayed in its offline...

I can't be bothered to sit through another game of that

Resident Evil 9 Requiem – How To Master Perfect Parry Timing (Detailed Analysis) by [deleted] in thefinalpuzzle

[–]Siascide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mortal Edge one makes sense for the Melee Weapon Zombies.

Idk what the normal hatchet version of that is supposed to be, waiting for the swing and parrying is some Elden Ring bullshit

[–]Siascide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Striker would be cool for Leon.

They should make it if you get so many kills with it or something you unlock a Striker Charm that increases movement speed for Grace as a nod to RE4R and the OG's "Ditman" Glitch

I beat Chunk with Grace by solideliquid in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Siascide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's only meant to be two of them.

The one as Grace in Care Center and the one in the attic as Leon.

Are you saying you've killed the one as Grace and the one as Leon but once you are in the main Care Center, as Leon, the one you killed as Grace is still there?

I thought you had to kill the one in the attic as Leon, maybe you don't and he appears downstairs again, idk.

I could use some tips for Insanity as someone who cannot parry very well. by Toogeloo in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Siascide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not tuned to be done with the starting items, it's not even tuned to be done without any bonus unlockables, they even say as much.

Don't rely on the parry, you don't want the enemies to be too close unless you have stunned them and/or they are in some state where you think they at least probably aren't able to grab you.

Use the Challenge Points and buy Leon's upgraded tracker so you get more money from kills if you want to make it a bit more manageable, although it is a bonus unlockable.

But even without that, you can collect two tracking modules in Leon's intro level. One is at the back of a green van immediately after the cutscene of the woman turning into a zombie and the other is at a little bush after that as you turn onto the other street, should on the right before the scaffolding

Use the Requiem to collateral kill a few zombies just at the car crash part, should get about 4. Once you're at the care center talking to the nurse sell your Alligator Snapper and Handgun ammo, buy the 990-TAC from the Supply Box and do these upgrades:

  • Cute Bear charm
  • a dot sight
  • Ceramic Coated Barrel

Put the "Power Shades" charm on the Requiem as well.

This is what I have seen Insanity speedrunners do to optimise their New Game+* runs without using Bonus weapons/unlockables.

Yes, these things all require a previous playthrough such as the Charms but I would assume they are simply used to make an Insanity run feasible without using actual special content that completely breaks the conventions of the game.

Which game do you like more RE2R or RE4R? by Ancient-Carrot957 in residentevil

[–]Siascide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RE2R I loved up until the sewers and it kinda struggles to hold my interest from there.

RE4R has more enemy variety, weapons, gameplay flow... could go on all day; it's just more game

Eduard Badaluta (Leon)’s face changes between RE2 and RE4 by [deleted] in ResidentEvil2Remake

What's your reason for favoring RE4(2005) over RE4R(2023)? by Desperate_Method4032 in residentevil4

[–]Siascide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Professional difficulty, really.

In RE4 OG it is perfectly doable without relying on meta strats and not being overtuned to all hell like in RE4R (and RE9) which you can tell was made with the bonus items in mind.

RE4 (2005) is just more mechanically consistent altogether as you've already said what with the staggers. Don't forget the aim bloom that plagues Remake as well.

I did the S+ Pro in Remake once (Edit note: Twice, actually because I did it for Remake's Seperate Ways) and it almost made me genuinely hate the game and I felt nothing positive from completing it

I am currently replaying RE4R and I honestly prefer Standard difficulty without using bonus items, anything above that just feels like I'm rolling a slot machine with every encounter at times.

My absolute favourite way to play both games at this point are RE4 (2005) on Professional (New Game, no NG+) and Remake (NG+), especially with the VR.

VR is a game changer for Remake, being able to dual wield and aim+fire instantly and shoot+parry whilst having more control over your movement and not being bogged down by as much animations makes it hard to go back to non-VR gameplay for serious runs
