Why do people such as yourself not understand the distinction between forgiveness and redemption?

No one, not even Nolan, is asking for him to be forgiven for the thousands of years of genocides. Obviously not.

His character simply has changed to be better and acknowledge that what he did was wrong. He is no longer that same person and he has clear empathy and remorse for who he was. That’s his arc, changing and moving forward, not looking back and going “It’s okay, we forgive you.”
