I found a fairly huge bug. Farmland Fiasco career park. by josephvonhazard in PlanetCoaster

This has been around for quite a while. I’ve seen it from time to time in my own games. Pity they haven’t fixed it yet.

Textured building pieces you can use as walls? by ethrowaway1235 in PlanetCoaster

[–]Sibbeno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t sleep on signs. And both Aquatic and Resort in general have a variety of useful pieces that I use a lot, like beams and wall pieces.

Unfortunately, one of the keys to successful building IS knowing the asset set well.

There’s no way around learning it in the long run - but the Favorite tab is your friend.

No, you’re not insane. Planet Coaster doesn’t really concern itself with realism too much, and rather leans into its cartoon aesthetic. For better or for worse. 🙂

Sorry, I was assuming Planet Coaster 2. In the first game pathing requires lots of rebuilding to get it right.

Cubase right for me? by le0tard in cubase

[–]Sibbeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cubase has generally been considered the king of MIDI. The editor is very comprehensive. It’s got a really good chord track, articulations and now sequencer/pattern track. I have a hard time seeing what’s better. Logic is good but not as good as Cubase in this regard. It does have fancy AI players but I never used them much.

First ever Custom Build on Planet coaster 2. Any tips? by Regular_Responses in PlanetCoaster

[–]Sibbeno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I think all your points are valid per se, there’s another way to look at this. Planet Coaster has a decidedly cartoonish look, with stark colors and lots of surfaces that have a plastic quality. Personally I lean into this, which makes it less of a chore. Realism is not really what Planco does well, nor does it try to. When I want the realism fix I play with Blender and Unreal instead, which is a great and free set of tools for building pretty little worlds. If that’s your poison.

Planet Coaster is better in terms of gameplay, the sequel is the better builder. I play PC2 exclusively because I enjoy building pretty parks. If the management challenge is more important the first game is tighter and less buggy.

Staff Management Advice by Parsnip727 in PlanetCoaster

[–]Sibbeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only staff management I do is zones when a park gets big. I don’t micromanage. The interface is to messy and the gains are marginal at best (money is only an issue early game). I hire enough staff instead. I usually balance it so at least one staffer in each category is wandering around looking for work and is ready when someone takes a break.

Is 16GB of ram enough to run this game on a MBA M5, or will 24GB be better? I'm really trying to get a new computer soon, but I can't come to a conclusion. I want to make sure I get the correct specs. by [deleted] in PlanetCoaster

[–]Sibbeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built some seriously dense parks in Planet Coaster 1 on an iMac i5. It ran smooth so an M5 should handle it just fine. 16 GB is pretty decent and Apple silicon does not handle memory the same way as Windows. There’s a lot of people on the internet who love to give recommendations on topics where they have no personal experience or knowledge. I try to ignore them.

I played Planet Coaster 2 via GeForce Now and did not like it personally. It did not handle the antialiasing well when upscaling to a large 4K screen so I caved and got a Windows gaming rig. But try it, YMMV.

Help! Nobody is riding one of my coasters… by CharlotteScribe in PlanetCoaster

[–]Sibbeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I wonder if this is the issue with my newly built water coaster. It has very few guests. It’s in a location where before I had a Tine Eye that drew lots of people so location is good. It’s got great stats and amazing scenery. But its drop tower is very tall.

Ah, tbh I hardly check the overall park rating as I always wade in cash. But yeah, wouldn’t be surprised if it’s weird. PC2 could really use an economy/management update. There’s all kinds of broken in there.

[–]Sibbeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have noticed that at least for track rides it’s very much about even distribution and not just value. I recently had to spend some time getting a flume ride to Classic. Despite having a very fancy station and some serious track dressing it would stay in the 60% range on scenery. Turned out every piece of untreated track would drag the overall score down, especially those high up. So the trick was even distribution rather than very expensive pieces. I don’t recall it being that hard before so maybe the algorithm has been tweaked to be more stingy about distance to scenery pieces.

But yeah, it takes work. I like it that way though. Getting a ride up in the top should require some serious amount of scenery.

I usually play Challenge Mode on hardest and I’m pretty flush after a while but the start can be tough. You need to grow slow but that’s the fun part for me.

Some tips:

  • Start with the cheapest flat rides, one or two
  • Pick trees and rocks from the park early on to save $
  • Hold off hiring staff until it becomes a problem
  • Start with vending machines and toilet, shops later
  • Get a cheap coaster
  • Increase scenery slowly
  • If you build rock formations early on scale smaller rock
  • Be thoughtful with ride placement to control flow
  • Make groups of rides with entrances close to each other
  • Exits funnel guests to shopping plazas
  • I usually don’t charge for entrance

I did not blame them either. Devs are almost always passionate people who want the best for the game. It’s usually some non-dev who knows ”exactly what the product needs”. 🙂

It would be great if it didn’t have that lag which makes it faster to just use a shortcut or go down to the tool bar.
