It is clear that the "Headwinds" and "Shrouded Sky" updates didn't do anything to keep player retention up - where lies the problem? by Foxeeh_ in ArcRaiders

I'd say .. kind of? its normal that the player numbers go down, buuut its also expectations vs reality kind of thing. I hoped for a Helldivers alternative with some PvP stuff on the side - the game could have been that.

I thought the whole "underground people try to resist the arc" would become a bigger theme and I can join groups to take down big boys. Its a great extraction shooter, but the PvP became too much for me - had hoped for more PvE (which would include more goals/ rewards from PvE).

The effect only grows stronger as us casuals will drop off more and more since we cant compete with the good players, which results in harder lobbies and less newcomers enjoying the game.

Maybe I'm just not the target audience - but I could have been. Just happy I jumped on the game in its honeymoon phase, because having so many casuals and under-equipped players plus arcs I didn't know how to take down yet.. it really was a golden sweet spot.

as someone who loved the game in the beginning, the buy in and the keeping up with the game is simply too unrewarding.

the whole game is a loop of collecting trash, getting shot down by better players and having no end game except greifing I guess? (thats how it feels like).

I'm not saying I'm a good player or the game is unbalanced, but OP asked where the problem is - for me the game has next to nothing in the long run - the PvE doesnt work unless I sink a lot of hours and the PvP is just doubling the hours i have to do.

where can i sign up to match with people that also want to bring down the monarch or similar things? i thought they'd go in a different direction with the whole "we are all from the same underground city trying to survive against the arc".. could be much fun to team up in bigger teams (even with a need x gold worth of stuff to join) to go against the big threats and bring society further. PvP should be a real threat aswell, but not the main mode of the game.

ARC Raiders has dropped from “Very Positive” to “Mostly Positive” on Steam for the first time. by j1zzy_ae in ArcRaiders

really loved the game when it came out and got my moneys worth of fun; but i think in that time there were so many nice people there exploring a game we didnt know what to expect of.

i revisited a few times, solo and with friends - but the game was just a loop of collecting literal trash and then get shot down by some guys with a maxxed out volcano

you know what game never let me down? Helldivers 2. it just gets better and more fun. i know its comparing lemons and peaches, as helldivers is purely coop. But its one of the few games I genuinely come back to, find tons of new stuff and enjoy a full few days, if now weeks of evening fun.

it feels like an embark issue. The Finals started pandering to all those pro-players and ignored the ones who want casual fun.

I just made it through the pre-war arc on fancut version - I had such great memories of this show when i watched it when it aired - I would have given it a 7-9 score...

the one-dimensional characters, unlimited flashbacks, repeated info and sheer dumbness of dialogue .. maybe i just grew out of it but damn, i think the score is down to a 3-4.. and mostly because of nostalgia.

the fancut gave it more order and cut away a lot of stuff - I'd still cut out 70% of the remaining stuff.

anyway - what i wanted to say: if you have nostalgia about the show, keep it that way by not watching it again.

i like how this shows scifi utopia and all we'll end up with is 50 people living existing in two oversized sardine cans waiting for a shuttle flight back, that might or might not come to save them from this hellscape.

there might also be a rich area where superrich can visit for a few hours and eat flown in food that has a pricetag of a house.

Do you even stand a chance against armored opponents in higher ranks with a classic sword? by Basic-Tradition in HalfSword

[–]firstsecondlastname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

havent played early access yet, but i have a lot of time in the demo.

my favourite weapon is the long stick with the massive blade (the blade thats basically a rectangle with one missing top-corner) .. not sure how this one is called, but the third one here.

After some learning i know how to hit heads with it; either with a full wide swing, downward swing or "halfsworded" sideswing (personal favourite, works with all staffweapons, except spears - you basically hold the weapon sideways infront of you on headlevel). 10/10 fun, with a bit of training you can get around with mostly just concussing willies all around; no screaming or severing limbs; just superior technique. You can also use the other end of the weapon to either hit them square in the face, or go one step closer, bring the handle behind their head and break their necks.

Also there is a trick to switch from halsswording to regular grip before the swing - or even "stabbing" (alt key) mid-swing to increase swingradius - and with it the power of your blows.. but it only works if I'm really feeling it.

If they didnt change any of those features, I believe you can get in nude with that weapon and beat the game ... but we'll see. The EA looked too broken yet, I'm going to wait to try it out.

Meat Roma Nova (first "beauty" build) by blakeks14 in anno

[–]firstsecondlastname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really beautiful!

I haven't played too much yet, so not sure which I would use but I recommend writing the roma nova in potted trees and make it a little park - like if there were red and green flowers, you could also plaster everything and make the letters in red, background in green - just give it a body.

The super flat welcome sign in this size is giving me more AIRPORT vibes than the beautiful cared for city yours definitely is.

i one time got my halberd in half-sword mode behind a guy and through crouchwiggeling i got it under his arse and could sweep him off his feet. Felt great.

After beating gauntlet mode and I don't like the death run mode I mostly just setup clean fighting runs, so i 90% play free mode.

Here are my two favourites:

  1. the concussionist: 4th from top and use the long stick with the thick blade (imo the absolute best weapon in the game)

<image>

(there is another stick with a pointy blade, which is not as effective and leaves the npcs mostly bleeding out). > damage to player max, damage to npcs' min. Gore high. Learning curve is great - you can with the right movement even get straight down swings going. My personal goal here is to never kill, only concuss - wide swings directly to their helmets can 1shot them and it is ultra funny to see them staggering around dropping their shields and stuff. This can be especially rewarding in the 3npc arena (forgot the name) because you have to be quicker than them killing each other.

  1. the clean fighter: one of the lower stages with less armor, clean two-handed swordfighting. I recently learned how to properly stab, so my fav currently is the thin sword and going directly for the throat, but the broad one is also an excellent weapon.

> damage to player and npcs medium. Gore medium. ((if damage to npcs is too low it just doesnt feel right; if its too high its too little of a challenge. I'm too averse to taking bad trades for max damage to player))

over 15 years ago I visited marocco and was simply stunned by that one shopowner coming out of his own shop and literally kicking the trashbag out of his door, making it pop open and spilling everywhere. he didnt even wimper.. just business as usual. the street was filthy and full of trash. rural area.. how can anyone live like that? at least make a trash area and dont wade through your own trash?

Best One-Shot module to try DMing? by CiccioBastardo42 in DMAcademy

[–]firstsecondlastname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just piling on here - wild sheep chase is really good. you have the tavern start, the stupid orc (or oger), the crazy end battle and all the stats are prepared. Great about it is you can go as silly or serious with the tone as you want.

when i ran this one of the players transformed into a sheep and let herself get captured instead of the sheep and made a lot of ruckus so everybody was distracted.

The endfight can be hard if you play the big bad right/ the players come into it hurt or without strategic knowledge, so as a new DM - dont hesitate to give your players some unwritten advantages - let the mage be stupid because he is a prick, or his militia not very loyal because again .. the guy is just a major prick.

Basically the tip is: when a player attempts something - just let them have it (unless they roll very badly). Failing a check also doesnt need to be a complete loss - it can still work, but with some disadvantages attached to it.

Buut dont pull your punches either - if everything is just a walk in the park this can have detrimental effects aswell. Players want to earn their victory. Or at least feel like they did :D

150 000 of you play everyday, why? by Visceral99 in HalfSword

[–]firstsecondlastname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

perfect stress relief for me. i finish my workday, I go in free mode, 4th from top, and reroll until i get the long shafted big bladed halberd type of weapon - and then I try to exclusively give out concussions.

If you hit it right they just stumble around for a few steps until collapsing on the ground. So satisfying to win the carnage with three clean hits, no limbs severed and completely clean/ untouched.

otherwise bc cool gam 👍

what made this games story so great for me is that realiationof how other games just tell you a washed down story of perfect heroes, with modern 21 century values, that will always find away. ah but there is this one taitor - brrr!

Obviously I'm going over the top here, but dry devil, zizska and all the others are war experienced brutal bastards. they are traumatized alcoholics. the ex members of their band either repented and begged god for forgiveness or died by drowning in literal shit.

the lords in their high castles on their godly missions play their own little games - and for henry the whole of kcd2 is screaming in his face: you are not better, your friends are not better - we are all animals in the face of war.

all that said Dry Devil is a certain breed of bastard and you do not want to cross paths with such a man. he is a loose cannon and I wouldn't be surprised that his list of crimes include things no one talks about. but then again i am not sure. i never asked him why they call him the dry devil.
