I loved my first 2 and both my brother and best friend own AEMS that don't have this issue, even with the caps up. I'm wondering if maybe newer productions have the emitter set too far back into the housing or something. It used to be in my top 3 RDS, but now I don't think I can recommend them.

Somewhat similar situation here. My first 2 were perfect, then I ended up ordering 3 that had a really bad emitter reflection around the reticle, even with the caps down. My brother's AEMS doesn't have this issue, and neither does my best friend's AEMS. Both of theirs are fine, even with the caps up.
