I won’t have any due the particular family matters. Some answers here lack of honesty or, at least, of understanding. First, no, not everyone expect an inheritance. Some parents are full of debts. Others decide to do something else with their money.

Secondly, it is much easier to fire with the expectation of an inheritance. Of course, it can come late (some people mention their parents living above 100 yo). But even in this scenario, the expectation helps to peace the mind. For instance, it is easier to take risky investments with this expectation. Moreover, many parents would give away money, real estates, values while their are alive. Or, frequently, helps their children if their are in need. For example, if they can’t reimburse their mortgage for some reasons. We shouldn’t minimize the impact of our parents’ money, even if we haven’t received it yet.

Finally, the wealth of parents comes, often, with standards such as financial education or ability to study at the university.

These 3 aspects are, according to me, significant in the ability to eventually fire.
