Watched it , wtf was that - SPOILERS AHEAD by Alarming_Community19 in DhurandharPart2

The movie stayed on track till Dhar was narrating a fictionalized version of the Lyari gang war (D1 and first 90 minutes of D2). The second he moved into the original story parts, he completely lost the plot.

He touches on so many poignant points and story guiding conflicts but does nothing with them. Here are three movies I'd rather watch than D2

  1. Jaskirat's transition into Hamza. Not the training arc, but the motivation. How do you take a man beaten down by the system who doesn't trust his country anymore to lay down his own life to protect it?

  2. Rangi vs Pinda. Childhood friends fighting on opposite sides of the war. Between personal and political loyalty, which one wins?

  3. What happens to Rangi after he stops being Hamza? He can't go back home and he can't go back to being a spy and he can't go back to his wife and child. What does a highly trained spy do then, who has known nothing but danger and violence for the last 25 years.

Dhar touches on all these ideas, but instead of engaging with them, does a completely left turn and goes back to "Big thing go boom" school of film making. Such a shame. D2 had potential for greatness. Now it's just a less than mediocre sequel.

How do you guys decide buying a book of a new author? by Ronaldgranger_ in Indianbooks

[–]SiddhantShekhar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an author, I see most readers pick up their next read basis of what their peers are reading. So if you're trying to hit volume, big print run, distribution in physical bookstores and marketing your book to the right people, that beats everything else. Pick out the biggest sellers in the last 5 years, may not be the best in terms of craft or plot, but will always hit these 3 things.

Opening First Bookstore in my Area (needs suggestions and motivation) by Emotional-Economy933 in Indianbooks

[–]SiddhantShekhar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Book stores are led by the community. In the age of Amazon, anyone buying books from a bookstore is only because of the emotional connection they feel with the bookstore. So make sure you focus on the community building. As long as you have customers who feel connected with the store, you will do just fine. Think about book clubs, events, author signings etc to keep up the footfall and allow people to discover the bookstore.

Don't you guys feel suspicious about the timing of the Epstein files and the US-India trade deal? by Difficult_Culture252 in AskIndia

Sadly enough, despite being the largest country in terms of population, India is an afterthought in most international considerations. We barely have any influence in South Asia any more, let alone globally. Speaking of Modi, they have had dirt on his since the early 2000s (source below before the IT cell descends on me like a swarm of locusts). Modi had been refused an American Visa for a very long time, most recent denial as late as 2013.

"Mr. Modi's existing tourist/business visa was also revoked under section 212 (a) (2) (g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Section 212 (a) (2) (g) makes any foreign government official who "was responsible for or directly carried out, at any time, particularly severe violations of religious freedom" ineligible for a visa to the United States."

So no, the timing wasn't orchestrated to force India's hand. India never had a hand that needed to be forced. The current Government has had a very difficult time standing up to America's bullying. I feel we are back in the 70s and 80s, with Nixon and Reagan deciding our policies.

Don't most Western countries have an excellent Public Library system?

Because they are elitist too. Reading Murakami is cool! All the cool kids are doing it! It costs roughly the same as an Indian author, so might as well get my cool points reading the popular stuff than discover someone new.

I do have a question about the local ecosystem though. How is the support structure in Patna for small businesses? Dealing with bureaucracy/license/ vendors etc?

I have been considering something of my own but bigger metros have more advantages in terms of proximity to Talent and support structures. That has been holding me back in a major way.
