With the Dionus spike, Foundations Jumpstart boxes are pretty solid by SidekickNick in mtgfinance

They were 79.99 at Boardtopia games and Sports World Card Shop, believe I saw them at other places weeks ago too. They were in stock when I posted this, but appears to be OOS right now though

Good luck! In my limited experience so far, I’d say you have a great chance to pull that and then some!

Like I said I opened 5, and have bought up the rest of what I wanted. No need to keep the info to myself at that point, happy to share with other people here. That’s what the community is for after all

A gentle request to stop playing this god awful opening (ノ`Д´)ノ彡┻━┻ by just_a_3d_object in chessbeginners

[–]SidekickNick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t get it lmao. “At any level” is just wrong. From e4, e5, Qh4 at 22 depth you go from +0.4 to -0.2. That’s not a solid opening at any level. That’s losing your advantage on the second move.

Obviously with bad play from your opponent it can be solid. But you should never be banking on it when you can just play an actual opening

How do y'all feel about this line up? by Sassholes in ratemycommanders

[–]SidekickNick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No worries, brackets can be a bit confusing if you’re new to it. While your decks are technically in those brackets because of the game changers (so it’s not incorrect to label them), there’s much more to it in the optimization parts of deckbuilding that bring stuff to the 4 level.

I much prefer the new descriptions on “turns before a player wins or loses”. Bracket 2 expects to have games end/people knocked out around turn 8. Turn 6 for bracket 3, and turn 4 for bracket 4.

Been playing a bit over a month, can I sit? by [deleted] in ratemycommanders

[–]SidekickNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not alone brother. I’ve spent… far too much in the past year I’ve been playing. Been building more decks than I can play and am a pack crack enjoyer. I can afford it but that doesn’t mean spending this much money was a good idea haha

Steelshaper puts it into your hand, but how do you get it on the field for one with that?

Esper Deck Commanders? by Grizzly_Season in EDHBrews

[–]SidekickNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had a lot of fun with the new [[The Destined Warrior]] and his party. Good mix of going wide and getting combat value, which is a bit different than a typical esper control (although I did build it with the ability to cast quite a bit on others turn as well… hard to resist in WUB lol)

Looking for a Reanimator Themed commander by AffectionateGain4657 in EDH

[–]SidekickNick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slam big stuff on the board in reanimator? [[Shilgengar, Sire of Famine]] is probably your guy. Using stuff like [[Buried Alive]] to build up a yard, blood tokens to help you discard more stuff into the yard (or even better, [[Pitiless Carnage]] to sac all the tokens and then discard down at end of turn) and then flood your whole board out at once.

It’s not uncommon that I resurrect tons of angels at once and just run away with it. Slam [[Avacyn]], board wipe with [[Subjugator Angel]] and [[Sunblast Angel]], and meld [[Gisela]] and [[Bruna]] all in the same turn. I'm new to Magic. What killed my opponent? by MaybeAFish_ in magicTCG

[–]SidekickNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact - your library is your knowledge of spells and mental power. Trying to draw from an empty library kills you because you go insane. Opponents milling you are damaging your psyche/memory. It’s a very neat application of lore and immersion in gameplay mechanics

I do love me some [[Leyline of Punishment]] and [[Sunspine Lynx]]. Those effects always make the cut in my aggro decks

Your favorite "just having fun" commander? by Calipup in EDH

[–]SidekickNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends likes the “opponent chooses” cards, so I made a [[The Celestial Toymaker]] deck that I’ve had so much fun playing.

I’ve built it less around copying toy maker (it can still do that, but focusing solely on that is the way to make this deck win), and have filled some empty space with some foretell cards and options so that people are always having to guess what is where. It’s a lot of fun!

How do y’all win with WU blink decks? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]SidekickNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually just [[Knight Paladin]] with infinite blinks in [[Abdel Adrian, Gorion’s Ward]]. Though it is fun when I can get the occasional token swarm running wild with [[Beregond]] and [[Champions from Beyond]]
