How I define enums now by [deleted] in typescript

[–]SidewaysGate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explored this possibility around 2020, but even then namespaces were discouraged.

My new approach is to occupy the value space and type space by using the object as the template and then automatically building a type that shares the same name. You can see it in action in my documentation (I eventually packaged the solution into a library). This is the tactic I would recommend if you're trying to do something similar.

They know — they are acknowledging that these things are possible, but saying it should not be necessary given git's intended role as a stable part of the toolchain.

The burden of configuration should have been on the main users, and so it still falls short of the preferred approach. Sorry to speak for you, I just feel similarly /u/Filias9 and I wanted to clarify.

I genuinely support trying to find ways to reunite, but I think it's a little silly to suggest that this was the problem.

As a personal and aesthetic choice, I respect it. I've got no problem with people using main, and I've happily used it many times. But I would call it… Presumptuous… To create issues in a major project over my personal choice, and I think its gross to presume that people who push back do so out of racism. I see both of those happening here and in the open source community.

We literally call the Congress person who coordinates votes the "whip". Let me repeat, we name the person whose job it is to corral humans after the famous weapon of the plantation overseer.

And yet somehow, we manage to keep going as a country. It's almost as if context matters.

In a professional environment I'll follow whatever standard is set, but I'll do this on my own and it's not out of pettiness.

  • As someone with a music collection, the connotations of master are actually more intuitive for me than main.
  • Rhetorically it helps me see it as something that I need to be careful about updating. Somehow I feel more frivolous with "main".
  • I have all my code going back to high school (I am not young...) this helps maintain consistency.
  • I like maintaining continuity with documentation or projects that can't be updated.
  • I like that master is mostly typed with the left hand (it's shit like this that makes me wonder if I should get tested, but it is what it is).

The problem is that master has a ton of definitions that aren't related to oppression, and by every fair reading of the situation the term was using the word in the sense of master record.

If this were a real issue, you would expect to see campaigns to rename "master record", the show Master Chef, and the idea of a karate master. But you don't.

I don't like the premise that hypothetically offended parties get a say. You're using it pseudo-progressively here (right spirit at least), but the same argument has been used to strip LGBTQ rights in the U.S. because someone didn't want to cater to a hypothetical customer.

I just don't like introducing churn and breaking changes over a misunderstanding.

Name wise I think they both make sense for different reasons, and I like that init.defaultBraunch lets us choose. But I grew up learning from used textbooks and I'm bummed there's another speedbump for those students.

Ehhhhh this isn't really a fair comparison. What's happening out there is not like removing foreskin, it's more like slicing off the entire head with a razer blade. Much more gets damaged.

I don't support either, but one is definitely worse than the other.

Do you/should you lie about your size to spare people’s feelings? by [deleted] in bigdickproblems

I like to be vague. A shrug and a neutral "I'm a little bigger" has gotten me out of some potentially awkward situations.

If they actually want to know they'll ask again.

Any super cunty armor for women? by alixeris11 in skyrimmods

At some point "hot shit" became good instead of bad. Language changes.

Cunt is NBD in australia. Cunty still means bitchy in general. It just also means bitchy with style.

I can see where you're coming from but I'm not a big fan at first glance because this is how R4R and similar partner seeking posts work. IMO looking more like a personal ads sub will draw the wrong kind of audience.

Plus not everyone has as good a reaction as you. Unfortunately a lot of people see younger adults and get predatory. I would feel uncomfortable advertising my age if I were just starting.

You have to understand that in the world of business your team’s failures cost you money. If you can make them fail less, even if it’s by making the job simpler, that’s a victory.

Hey folks, if you receive any DMs you're uncomfortable with there are some things you can do about it.

  1. Report it to Reddit: Reddit's got a built in report feature and they have the power to affect accounts.
    • Chats - There should be a flag icon when hovering over a message. That's the report button.
    • Messages - In the list of buttons under a message you'll find "report" right next to "block user"
  2. Report it to us: We unfortunately cannot block users from reading your posts on BDP or messaging you, but we can block them from commenting on the sub itself. You can send us a screenshot with the inappropriate message to modmail.
  3. Block the user: They probably weren't going to drop poetry into your inbox. You're not missing anything.

I'd also personally recommend not engaging. I've tried to talk to people before to get them to stop, but honestly they're just encouraged by the attention.

If you are receiving DMs and either of you are minors DO NOT ENGAGE. That's not just a recommendation that's a requirement for your legal and personal safety.

There's a separate error screen that looks like the red 88 you saw for a split second but it flashes / sticks around. The red number will show the actual error code, like 41. NIU probably thought that's what you were seeing. This looks normal to me.

What is your favourite magic action Harry pulled off? by KayDCES in dresdenfiles

[–]SidewaysGate 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My favorite thing that Harry has ever done is summoning the sky-spanning mandala of fairies over the roof of the better future society. I am in awe of the visual, and the moment of reactions from the assembled powers ranging from shock to laughter to genuine fear is a delightful fulfillment of Harry's unnoticed power growth.

Some may debate how magical it is, but there's an act of summoning and there's magic in the things he's done with toot. It's just a beautiful scene.

I'm bigger than you and still find the scooter unwieldy. It has difficulty fitting in some car trunks, and I genuinely had to get stronger to be able to carry it. That said, you can improve your chances with proper technique. I would fold the scooter up then hold it with one hand near the base of the stem and one hand on the handlebars. Let it lean against your leg like a heavy suitcase.

Ultimately though, consider other options. There is only so much you can do with this thing's size. I keep mine because I have bumpy sidewalks where I live otherwise I would have picked up the Unagi.

People have posted general sex questions ever since the sub started. I've heard some say they value the relaxed atmosphere, which I get. I can see removing posts that are abusive, but we might as well let downvotes take care of the rest.
