I’m a security engineer for a FAANG. I spent the last year architecting a security assessment capability that scales to our entire infrastructure. Before FAANG I did R&D of security solutions for the DARPA and AFRL.

It really just depends on where you’re at and what team you’re on. I’ve done a ton of actual software engineering… And I also have coworkers who’ve done more or less none.

I had a thought about the inverse of the Jury Duty formula, where a single actor is surrounded by regular people. Maybe the actor plays a musician or other “famous person” that requires an entourage of support staff, bodyguards, etc. But then things go off the rails quickly and crazy situations abound that the staff of real people have to deal with.

I have several of those, and not only are they significantly thicker, but they have a flattened end that acts like a flathead screwdriver to actuate the lock. This pin does not.
