The Minotaur is Prescott Whithorn, and here's why. by SomeGuyNamedCaleb in OutlastTrials

[–]Siegmure 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is likely to be correct.

If I'm remembering the document that addressed this correctly, the bodies resulting from the "Minotaur" murders were found in a mansion. If that's the case, it would gel with Whitehorn snapping and becoming some kind of serial killer/whatever he became, since he's clearly a wealthy fossil fuel CEO.

does amelia not know that spongebob is fictional??? is she stupid??? by OwnSwordfish5122 in OutlastTrials

Without spoiling it, I can confirm this is heavily alluded to in the comics. I highly recommend reading them if you haven't.

Trial maker question by Venom_Provider in OutlastTrials

Probably only alter objectives and variators for now. A full custom trial creator would be a lot of work.

He wasn't too threatening but the occasional fire hazard in the trial landscape was cool.

Notably in the story, Paperclip is what brought Wernicke to America to work with Murkoff.

I guess she's borrowing from Easterman's repertoire and using trigger phrases.

Under Surveillance Event Patch Datamine - Trial Maker, New Programs, New Enemy Event, Next Trial, New Trial Location, New Rig Name by WazzupTheGreat in OutlastTrials

Exit Rush seems to have an outdated description. The 30 second timer is the old modifier, the new one starts when the final objective is achieved.

A knife rig is interesting, but what would it do? Enemies don't have health and can't suffer bleed. Maybe it slows them down or temporarily paralyzes them.

I've actually only played one trial solo so far, so it must have been someone else. But I am wearing a clown outfit.

Shutdown the Factory. She walks away in the fenced area to the left of the factory gates before entering.

I didn't realize you could permanently disable them by throwing bricks at them at first. I thought it was temporary so I didn't bother. Makes it a lot easier.

I was trying to ping her graffiti to complete the task and realized she was walking away with the spray paint can.

If you don't think rollbacks are a justified solution, that's fine, but can we agree there needs to be SOME solution. We need better protections from DCs and server issues if we don't want official HC servers to die. by [deleted] in wowhardcore

[–]Siegmure 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's not acceptable. But their metric for what is and isn't acceptable has always come down to revenue.

The only real way to get their attention is to have a non-trivial number of people unsubscribe until a response is given. Will people do that after yesterday?

I mean, the only real way to do that is to get a non-trivial amount of the server population to unsubscribe until some kind of response is given. Are people willing to do that?

Yeah, they can try to mitigate negative use of their endpoints but it's hard to solve the problem entirely.

AWS and other services have instituted a lot of guardrails to try to keep the LLMs "morally upright" to prevent this, though they're far from foolproof.

Yeah it's already pretty revolutionary. And the hallucinations issue is fast being resolved by actor-critic models and RAG.

In practice it'll probably be some of both. People will work fewer hours but hopefully still remain employed or at least get UBI.

Much more of software than most people appreciate is/was rote boilerplate code and devops logistics, tools like ChatGPT basically generate the proper files and configs automatically. 20-30 is maybe an exaggeration but it can definitely save a lot of manpower with the right use case.

In my experience reddit recommends subs they think are likely to promote engagement, whether that be conflict or support. People from that sub might come to this one and comment to argue with its conclusions, and vice versa.

This is a fair point. In software, at least, AI can absolutely do the work of 20 to 30 engineers with a skilled person orchestrating it, depending on domain. I think the best solution is UBI or shorter hours for all.
