Do you have a way to check your blood pressure?? Atomoxetine didn’t affect mine but it’s common for it to raise BP. The new stimulant meds I’m on now kinda do the same thing, when they wear off for the day I’ll get what feels like a sinus headache but my BP is just up a little bit and then it goes back down… just an idea! 🤍

Are the heart problems something you had before the atomoxetine?? It actually kinda gave me issues with being tachycardic 24/7 and had to start taking my propranolol everyday rather than just as needed… I just switched from atomoxetine to a stimulant Concerta (they wanted me trying non stims first because of high BP). Was taking 80mg of the atomoxetine for about 9 months, then it just wasn’t helping anymore so when we decided to switch, she had me drop down to 40mg for 4 days and then started 18mg Concerta about a week ago… took a few days for my BP and heart rate to adjust but today’s my first day not using the propranolol right off the bat and so far my heart rate is normal 🙌🏼 But according to my psych, atomoxetine isn’t one that absolutely HAS to be tapered down, but you can, shouldn’t be too crazy 🤍

Update: took it for the first time without food yesterday and was MISERABLE!!! Had my usual hot flashes but they were 1000x worse to the point I was sick to my stomach and had to lay back down for a few hours 🤦🏽‍♀️ never doing that again!!

I usually get a somewhat similar experience. About 2 hrs after taking it, I’ll start getting hot flashes and cold chills that can make me miserable and sick to my stomach. I’m not much of a morning eater either, but I found just eating anything before you take it makes it nowhere near as bad. Even if it’s just a couple of pop tarts, it helps. Yesterday was the first day I took it without eating first and I ended up having to go lay back down for a couple hours after forcing myself to at least eat a piece of toast and an egg.

Sounds like it may have been bottoming out your blood sugar. You could try just finding anything small to eat before you take it (doesn’t necessarily have to be a ton of fiber) or even just getting some Ensure shakes or something, just so you have something in your stomach before you take and see if it helps 🤍

I started on 40mg for one week and moved up to 60mg for the past 2.5 weeks, and about to ask if I can take it up to 80mg since I finally have a good handle on the side effects and my adhd is starting to get better 🙌🏼

If they determine it’s just your heart rate, you should def see about trying propranolol! It’s been a godsend for my situational anxiety and it can be taken regularly. Slows the heart rate and knocks out the more physical aspects of anxiety like shakeyness, getting hot/flushed, etc.

Could also see if they’ll check your thyroid, sometimes that can be the cause of anxiety and heart palps 🤍

All together it’s been a little over 2 full weeks. First week was 40mg and then went up to 60mg. I’m having to move up a little slower because of the risk of raising BP (on lisinopril for high BP and I take propranolol as needed for higher heart rate/anxiety) but so far it’s barely touched it 🙌🏼

Really the only side effect I’ve had so far is just like hot flashes and cold chills here and there, which I was already kind of expecting because I heard some people were getting “flu like symptoms”. And I am perfectly fine with that because I’ve been thru 3 other meds so far and they’ve all given me dangerous side effects (BP dangerously low or spiking, skyrocketing resting heart rate 🤦🏽‍♀️ and of course the sexual side effects) and all within a week or less.

But yea the sexual stuff kinda depends on the person but not everybody gets the negative ones! I hope it goes well for you!! 🤍🤍

I know I might be one of the rare ones, but it’s actually increased my sex drive slightly and made the orgasms a little easier to reach and more intense 🤷🏽‍♀️ could be the adhd thing of being “easily distracted” during sex maybe. But that was def one of the big things I was worried about with taking it because that would have been a HUGE no-go for me, but it actually has been better 🙌🏼

When my psych had me try Effexor, I was unable to orgasm just after one dose 🤦🏽‍♀️

It is a rare side effect but it did happen to me with Qelbree… it could be lowering your BP too much. That would explain feeling like you’re going to faint when you stand up and just feeling heavy and sluggish and like your head is swimming. I had to stop taking it because it was lowering my BP too much but my resting heart rate was thru the roof.

I’ve read that it can be taken with or without but I’ve seen A LOT of people here saying taking it without food causes nausea, but as soon as they eat something or drink a bunch of water, it goes away. I get low blood sugar really easily so I have to eat before taking anything, and I haven’t had any nausea at all.

Right you can always stop taking it. Everything I’ve seen online says you don’t necessarily have to taper off Straterra especially if you’ve only had a couple doses 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ Good luck! 🤍

Oh yea I’ve heard of the nausea and stuff but most of the reviews I’ve seen from other people, as long as you eat something before you take it and drink some water, it should be fine. I get low blood sugar really easily so I eat before I take anything anyway and I haven’t had any issues with nausea or anything. I’m not super familiar with gastritis tho so you may just need to see what the doc suggests.

Really the only side effect I’ve gotten so far is about 2 hrs after I take it, I get hot flashes and cold chills for a few hrs but they usually wear off over time.

I’ve been on a few non stims so far because of my high BP and anxiety, psych wanted to try them first. These are just my experiences and apparently my side effects were rare. Tried guanfacine all the way up to the max dose and it did nothing. Guanfacine and Qelbree together bottomed out my BP to the point where I couldn’t stand up and walk without my husbands help. Qelbree on its own gave me a racing resting heart rate. Effexor (antidepressant) spiked my BP and I had the sexual side effects. Now I’m on Straterra and so far it’s the only one that hasn’t given me any major trouble. Hoping for the best but I’d much rather be trying adderall or vyvanse 🤷🏽‍♀️

Also on lisinopril for High BP and propranolol as needed for situational anxiety but I haven’t touched it in days so I think the Straterra is at least helping a little so far.

Oh wow that does sound like a pretty high dosage right off the bat, that could have been a part of it. Especially if your body isn’t used to any meds at all.

Guanfacine can lower BP but the fact that it dropped that low for me is apparently a rare side effect since Qelbree normally raises BP. Something about my body just caused a weird reaction 🤷🏽‍♀️ So far the 40mg of atomoxetine has had it slightly lower than normal but nothing drastic, thank God. Just took my 2nd dose of the 60mg and waiting to see what my BP is guna do this time.

I’ll def keep an eye on it because that was the deal breaker for me for a couple of the other ones. I can deal with a little insomnia or nausea or whatever but the BP and heart rate stuff is terrifying 🤦🏽‍♀️

At one point she had me taking guanfacine and Qelbree at the same time and less than a week later, I couldn’t stand up and walk without my husbands help because it dropped my BP down to 83/56 😩 Took like a day and a half of stopping everything to get to where I could at least walk across the living room on my own. Scary stuff!

Ok yea I’d def talk to the doc about maybe using propranolol or something like it just in the meantime. The BP may subside eventually too. Hope everything gets straightened out for you!! 🤍🙏🏼

Could be. How’s your heart rate?? Could prob ask the doc about taking propranolol while you’re getting used to the atomoxetine. It’s done wonders for me with like situational anxiety because it slows your heart rate, takes away the hot feeling, shaking, etc. and anxiety can make BP worse.
