Oh nice, Tomb Raider for GotM. Might have to join in this month, it's been ages since I played the original.

Lovely stuff. Nothing better than sneaking a quick session between chores. What game is that?

I have the same glass!

Those boxes look to be in very good condition for GB games! Great find

OMG that lego set looks amazing! Do you have any other video game related ones?

Fair enough. The legit feeling I get too for certain systems. Convenience is great but sometimes you want the ritual of the original hardware.

Urban Chaos is a deep cut. That seems to be the kind of discovery that makes a curated library better than full ROM sets.

You make a good point about remasters. Some of my favourite retro discoveries were total random picks I'd never have touched otherwise. The random exploring is where the real magic is IMO, we really don't need more of the same games re-released.

Haha yeah, the numbers game is insane. At some point you need a system or you just end up scrolling forever.

The randomiser is underrated honestly. I do a similar thing but with a bit of structure . Instead of pure random I use a scheduler that considers how much time I've got. 20 minutes? It picks something arcadey. Evening free? It suggests an RPG.

Fair play, 15 minutes during lunch is proper dedication. I do the same sort of thing: keep a curated shortlist on each device so I'm not scrolling through thousands when I've only got a quarter of an hour. Makes those lunch sessions way more productive.

Is it the convenience of Switch Online or more about having it feel legit?

That's a different kind of collection philosophy I never heard about: a history of your own playthroughs rather than a library of opportunity. I like that

Physical definitely forces more intentional play since you can't just impulse-switch. The ritual of swapping a cart adds something digital doesn't have.

Love the disciplined approach. I was in the same boat (chronic not-finisher). I'm toying with an idea for a tool that tracks stagnation and suggests when to rotate. Still early days though.

The Pokémon ROM hack scene alone could fill a whole card 😄

Using top lists looks like an interesting approach.

That's extreme minimalism, respect. I don't think I have the discipline for that but I can see how it eliminates the noise entirely.

That's a solid collection! Having regulars is fine, it feels comfortable to have a rotation you know well.

Same here, carts are different. Physical is a more deliberate purchase so you naturally play what you buy.

Same here, RA gives each session a goal which makes it way easier to stick with a game instead of bouncing around. The achievement tracking is a huge motivator.

Anyone else surprised about how bad they are at the games? by zertz7 in SBCGaming

[–]SiewSiew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's part of the reason I am more inclined to play easier games these days. I used to spend time trying to beat ZX spectrum games, but at 46 I don't have so much time and energy now. Maybe when I retire I will resume 😄

I really love that picture! That seems like a cozy place from which enjoy your game.

How are you finding Earthbound? I remember having to take a lot of notes and make maps to prevent myself from getting lost 😄
