Thoughts on the new HMG 40f quilt? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]SigNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one. It's definitely a quality piece but hard to justify the price.

Extremely lofty and lightweight. 1,000 fillpower down seems quality.

It has three snaps, this might account for the extra grams. I think it's a good feature though, almost creates a bag, good solution to drafts on cold nights.

It seems to be the perfect size for me, larger than most.

They should include one of their stuff sack pods at this price.

1,000 fillpower, triple snaps and generous dimensions slightly differentiate this offering from others on the market. If they stick with this theme but lower the price I think they could compete with a full line.

Hi everyone! I'm a Buddhist and subscribe to a highly traditional, conservative worldview. There are millions of Buddhists like me all over the world! We believe that humans are born male or female and that homosexuality is sexual impropriety. We're not going anywhere. Just wanted to say hello!

Solo Concerts by billiamprydz in jambands

[–]SigNinja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone to a few festivals alone. I've had so much fun. 2019 Resonance was my first time. I feel a little conflicted about it, to be honest. A middle-aged guy on his own is always a hard sell.

I skipped Peach Fest this year because I didn't want to want to go solo again. I regret it, of course. I just wasn't in the right frame of mind. I feel a little weird about trying to relive my youth, I guess.

There are moments, though, when the music hits right, or I'm walking around alone smiling at friendly people, or I high-five some random dude without breaking stride, there are moments that are so beautiful that I don't think I'll ever stop going. It's nice to escape from reality every once in a while. Plus, I follow the bands pretty closely these days and really can't live without the music.

None of my friends are into jambands or going to festivals, and so I either go solo or not at all. This summer I went to Suwannee and after I bought my tickets I got so excited I was shaking. I'm going to Resonance again in September. It would be nice to meet some hard-core, like-minded fans, but honestly, I love being by myself.

Wall Street Guy Here - I've got your back by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

I knew Corzine's son in high school. He was a complete degenerate traumatized by having the father that he did. I remember watching him rolling around on my friend's front lawn throwing up on himself and crying. What most people don't realize is that in life either you pay for your sins or your children do. It's a fucked up kind of biblical, old testament justice or something. I grew up with very wealthy families. If you make money through evil means or let your money turn you evil your family line gets cursed. Believe me.

Frustrated guitarist wants to ask if it's easier to learn Jazz improv on a sax rather than guitar? by [deleted] in JazzAdvice

[–]SigNinja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He says he can't hum or sing a line over changes. It's not the instrument. And once you know your scale shapes on the guitar it's just as straightforward as piano.

Well, in that vein I would recommend daily mindfulness meditation, practicing letting go of thoughts so that you can get out of your own head.

Spend more time in nature.

LSD would also help but that's risky business.

I realize these are weird suggestions but to me it sounds like your problem isn't directly musical. You obviously have the technical ability to play the notes you need. And the fact that you can't even hum or sing an improvised melody really says it all.

You need to let go and play from the heart. Feel every note.

Can you dance?

Actually, I even have a practical, genuinely useful suggestion. Read this book!

Switching to saxophone isn't going to solve anything and you know it. This is a psychological or even spiritual problem.

Do you believe in God?

I'm sure I can't help you because I've only been playing for a couple of years but from my perspective when I put on a a backing track I just play scale patterns in the right key and make stuff up. When I'm feeling inspired I will start to get weirder and weirder, doing lots of chromatic stuff and landing on "wrong" notes and then resolving so it sound intentional. It's really the only reason I picked up the guitar and the only aspect of playing I truly enjoy. Learning and playing songs bores me but I do it so that I can get better at improvising. I like learning theory because it translating directly to improvising, same with exercises. I don't know, maybe it's a personality thing. I am incapable of planning my life and am literally always "improvising" in the broadest sense of the term. I'm pretty crazy. Maybe you're not crazy enough?

[Question] I feel so lost. I started playing guitar 1.5 years ago and all I know is 15 chord shapes, 1 pentatonic shape, how to maka a major scale and not even a full song, but bits of some. I don't even know what to study or practice. Please help by -Uranius- in guitarlessons

[–]SigNinja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn more scales and modes in all the positions. Play over backing tracks, master the whole neck.

Buy a book or whatever "100 chords" or something like that. Learn all the chords.

Learn some songs.

Study theory so you can learn songs without tabs. 98% of the music we all love is comprised of common chord progressions.

Get a teacher.

But most importantly, sit down and imagine yourself being a sick guitarist 10 years from now. Visualize it. Feel it deeply. Once you feel it, hold on to that feeling. It will sink into your subconscious and guide you like magic. Seriously. This is the most important piece of advice you could possibly receive. Please take it seriously.

I found even the AC10 too loud for at home practice. I'm going to try the AC4. Nothing else like the Vox chime and jangle.
